C&H isn't coming back, ever. This was another one of the large number of works that use the concept of the original series to paint something different...on YTMND, that's usually the loss of innocence. Not all of them, though.
http://calvinhobbessng.ytmnd.com/ for example.
And for the guy who wanted "Forever Rachel" : http://calvinhobbesritalin.ytmnd.com/ already did it.
I don't cry at things like this, but it's definitely a moving YTMND, especially because of the music.
Note: If you compare Calvin in this strip to the Calvin in the original strip by Bill Watterson, they look quite far apart by age. I still can't believe that he no longer sees Hobbes as what he has been...
Nice music, I think the most reason people are either angry or sad by this is because it's a visual representation of our lost childhood. Where we no longer are able to have fun but have to go to college or work from 9 to 5. That's probably why this moves so many people. We all want to be Calvin again, we all don't want it to end.
I like this one better than the ritalin one. I didn't cry but I'm feeling extremely sad. Gone are the days where I could stay home in my underwear and watch cartoons. Then play outside. Now I have college. I have to save all my money and prepare for the future. I would give it all up, for one more day of innocence and bliss.
"Fan-made, or not. It's still a touching comic still. It captures the bittersweet style of some of Bill Waterson's orrigenal works. I don't care what anyone says."
QFT. Although the actual ending strip captured what watterson wanted, the joy of childhood and how there is always a new adventure waiting, even though this isn't done by him a presents a powerful message of lost innocence simply using C&H as the medium. 5'd
