ugly cousin." "Sarcasm is the lowest form of
humor." What's your excuse?

Also, all your "coincidences" are explained away by the anthropic
principle. If a guy wins the lottery, is it a miracle? No, of course not.
It's just dumb luck. It's only a miracle if it happened to ME. :P Given
that we're drifting among trillions upon trillions of stars that *didn't*
turn out to support any life, I'm not particularly flabbergasted that the
necessary conditions came together
Sigh. So much energy wasted on the particulars of Creation, when we avoid the important issues that Jesus talked about - helping the downtrodden. While I'm inclined to think there is a Creator, your animated GIF doesn't really prove it. Next time, donate that $200 to a church or homeless shelter, where you know it'll do some good.
"btw in case you haven't noticed, the catholic church has many beliefs and
practices that are no where mentioned in the bible" BTW if you haven't noticed, and you didn't since you're such a conceded ignoramus, the same goes for every sect of Christianity, otherwise there wouldn't be the factioning of Christianity. Maybe one of these days you'll finally say something that actually makes sense and isn't self-indulgant. Brainwashed sheep = 0, enlightened thinkers = 3,463,633
Nice effort, but completely ill-founded. It's not believed that this all happened 'by chance' as you lovingly repeat SO many times in this speech. The big bang theory is put together by evidence provided by scientific analysis of the universe around us. And define 'beauty' if you think it has a definitive meaning. Usually it ends up being nothing more than whatever you looking at sparking a great deal of interest. Nothing more. Once again, nice effort, but DO try to cover your bases if you choose to argue.
So many inaccuracies... Most of 'Something' did not happen "just by chance," as you put it. Rather, due to the physics that control the Universe in which we exist, Something was inevitable. Like when you roll a ball down a hill. The ball doesn't arrive at the bottom of the hill "just by chance" - gravity and inertia caused it. Also, the argument for Intelligent Design is weak. Explain children born with genetic diseases or mental retardation. What kind of Intelligent Designer would add those "features?"
I just want to say to all the downvoters. You shouldn't downvote because you dont agree with the content (how much content do we agree with on YTMND anyway) or the innacurracy as I can't go and put a slide for every single evolution stage as that would take a very long time. Either way it's a very beautiful YTMND and you know it. Like I said before, if you want me to answer your arguments PM as there r way to many here.
"It's amazing how many false Christians, like albino, there are. God gave us
a brain to discover the beauty of His universe." wow that was pretty rude and quite the judgement call on my christianity. When did I say we should never think other than what we are taught? you are right if God wanted us to be perfect then we would have no free will. God enables us to glorify Him in many ways, in art in thinking, helping others, and many other creative ways.
"Either way it's a very
beautiful YTMND and you know it." Not really. It's inaccurate, misleading and ignorant. Please, go on wikipedia, look up the real scientific theories. The universe is so massive that a planet like Earth NOT existing would be better evidence in Gods favour. And the laws of physics are such that this is the only ways things could turn out after something like the Big Bang - a theory which is also packed with evidence, though not as well proven as evolution.
"Absence of proof of existence is not absence of existence" is the argument here, I believe? I think you're talking about faith... please try to separate that from concrete science. The validity of both must exist. I sincerely hope you do not refute the findings of science simply because it does not follow traditional Christian dogma. Otherwise, we'd still believe in the flat, centrality of planet Catholic Europe, instead of the minute, lonely, uniqueness of our round Planet Earth.
"Not to mention, as Steben so rightfully stated, you've wasted nearly 180$
on this insult to intelligent theism, instead of spending it on causes
which need it." YTMND isn't a cause that needs your support? I guess you're the hypocrite now, dog. If you don't want to support YTMND, perhaps you should leave?
"YTMND isn't a cause that needs your support? I
guess you're the hypocrite now, dog. If you don't want to support YTMND,
perhaps you should leave?" Max himself has said "worst $176.79 you ever spent." here. Come on, it's a ytmnd supporting Christian theology - which is all about peace, love, ect...wouldn't the money better go to things like starving children in that particular case? Supporting humour = good! Supporting Christian propaganda while children starve against Christian principles = bad.
I have to agree.. it is pretty bad when they guy who's taking your money tells you you've wasted it. If only I could convince movie theathers to do this service. Just image, "Wow, due. You could have had a burger and fries but now you're going to lose three hours of your life you'll never get back. Ha ha."
I'm not judging Christianity, only certain ones like you who inhibit logic and science because you can't wrap your warped brain around the fact that a book written thousands of years ago by the Babylonians and translated over and over and over and over and over and over again isn't literal history. You're pathetic.
"Sigh. So much energy wasted on the particulars of Creation, when we avoid

Finally, a post I can agree with (or atleast the part about spending the money on the less forutnate
I wholeheartedly disagree with the idea that all this something came from "nothing"....in all likely hood the big bang was either a singularity, which means that all characteristics of all matter before the big bang is irrelevent, as it all became homegenous, or the big bang was a slight case of bad aim of a previous big crunch....that or you could say that our something came from the collision of two p-branes, and really, who the f knows what those were like....but i digress, something as we know it doesnt
come from nothing as we know it, it must have come from another form of space time which allows spontanious generation, which seems likely to be behind a singularity somewhere in our past, which means it is virtually irrelevent because all information is lost in singularity, because any given singularity is apparently indistinguishable from the next, and because anything within it must pass through infinate time to exit, it is only in the eyes of an external observer that 'time' ever changes.
why no open minded atheist posts? maybe because this is a terrible slander of accepted facts. Atheists most often rely on arguments which can be verified AND contested, this is not an attempt to contest it, this is poo flinging, the idea that you can say that intelectualizing about god and the origin of the universe is to deny god is horsesh*t, using your first assumption and feelings to describe the worlds is bull
The people at allaboutscience try to use the second law of thermodynamics (entropy) to support the claim of intelligent design, but they seemed to have left out the detail that the Earth is not a closed system. The universe, however, is and had initial low entropy due to the uniform distribution of matter and energy before quantum fluctuations allowed matter to clump up.
First of all I’d just like to say that I normally don’t go around challenging peoples beliefs. I believe everyone is entitled to believe as he or she chooses, that’s why I was originally just going to leave this alone, but when you submit this horrendously biased and misinforming insult to science, I feel like I must say something. The implication that religion provides an easier paradigm from which to understand the universe is profoundly ridiculous for the following reasons:
^^For example: Darwin’s claim that humans descended from apes could have been proven wrong after the discovery of DNA and genetic profiling. If it was found that apes and humans were genetically dissimilar, Darwin’s claim would have been discarded and a new theory would have been made. (For the record, humans and chimpanzees share more than 90% of their genes and so the theory was supported).
^^The attempted use of science to prove the existence of a deity is an oxymoron. Many parts from religious documents of most religions are contradicted by observations made subsequent to the documents being published. That does not make religion wrong, it just means that the two do not support eachother.
^^I still believe everyone is free to believe whatever they choose and if people are swayed by your argument, that is great that they have found something to believe in. But I offer a simple warning that your bias and misinformation could be perceived as religious propaganda and may change some people’s neutral or positive attitude towards Christians to negative attitudes.
I direct a thunderous LOL at Tenacious A. How can you think that the fact that the existence of god can't be observed makes faith more reliable than science? Your "theory" is falsifiable. It is already false. Faith does not make god real. I can have faith that 2+2=5, but fact is always preferable to faith. A science book is written by man and is based on fact; the bible is written by man and is based on other literature. It was edited 1000s of times and is no longer even close to the original. Deal.
Peterguy-"You need God, you need it." I'm sorry I didn't see this sooner. You are no better than the millions blind of religious zealots throughout history. You just have the privilege to use the tools invented by a scientist to shout your archaic rambling at anyone that gives you the chance. And those Sunday school links in the description? The Nazis were more subtle in their propaganda.
"But yeah. There is a
God. Stop denying it already, people." Remember the Greeks used to believe the stars were chariots of fire? Before we had science, when people couldn't explain things, they made them up. All God is is a myth left over from earlier times. The whole concept is useless and outdated now.
I like the description videos that he provides. Here's a better explanation of the "theory of relativity" one: Given that life exists, there must be the sufficient conditions in order for life to exist. Life exists. The sufficient conditions exist. If they didn't, we wouldn't be having this conversation, obviously.
Oh, and if anyone wants to say that it's "highly unlikely that it just happened to occur", you'd be quite right. There are 400 billion stars in our galaxy, and upwards of 100 billion galaxies in our universe, and we don't even know if there are more universes. Now, it seems that regardless of how "unlikely" it may be, it has a likelihood and it has plenty of opportunities. We are, obviously, one of the unlikely yet possible outcomes.
On the videos you've now got in the description...the evolution ones are wrong, evolution can explain complex life on a single-cellular level, due to the timescales involved. And as for the badly named theory of relativity video, and the big bang one...they talk about the chances being low for the number of STARS in THIS galaxy. There are MILLIONS of BILLIONS of stars in the universe.
As for the laws of physics...that's just the way things work. You can't put it on a scale or compare it with other things because there are no other laws. If things were different, life could survive, just not life familiar to us. As for the fact we can understand the universe...is that so surprising?
Your argument is flawed.
1) The universe is very complex, and is therefore unlikely to have simply come from nothing.
2) Therefore you propose that an omnipotent omniscient God created the universe, who must be *far* more complex than anything contained within.
3) However, when challenged, "Did God come from nothing?", you state that the question is not applicable, or that he just has "always been".
I'm sorry, that's not a fair argument.
Nice montage, but I don't like the message. It contains a number of misunderstandings and inaccuracies. You bible types need to understand that science doesn't contradict the existence of God, but it sure as hell contradicts a lot of sh*t in Christianity and all other made-up religions. That's why you types attack science. I'll tell you what science really is. Science is the pursuit of the understanding of all phenoma...
... it is the pursuit of understanding the universe. And if you're religious, it's an attempt to understand the universe that God created for us--to understand God, to become one with Him. Why, science is perhaps one of the most noble pursuits mankind has ever undertaken. Yet you Christians (and others) continually deny science, and in doing so, you deny yourself of God. You turn a blind eye to the universe God has created. And you continue to fight, and argue, and kill...
Peterguy you rambling on about god creating time amuses me. Because the scientific term of time is the gravitational pull on the organism in the expansion of relativity correlation with our sun. Humans created the concept of time out of science lol. You sir better learn your facts before arguing. By the way the bible is horse sh*t made by man also. So don't ever quote it, in an argument or preaching.
your a f*cking disgustng excuse for a human if you wernt such a weak pathetic piece of sh*t who needed to believe in a "god" to live you would deserve an ounce of respect from me. you ridicule in the most pathetic and inacurate way science which is based on factual evidence and observation. you dont know a f*cking thing you dumb f*cking c*nt. learn about factual science then try to have an inteligent conversation with me you f*cking fairy tail following idiot.
People dont need to believe ONE OR the OTHER.
there is no reason you can't believe that god created an entirely orderly universe, and presumably he has never intervened in it because he obviously knew what was going to happen when he made it? studying the natural world, and believing in what you see does not negate god, it only places restrictions on when he might have last intervened
The Big Bang is illogical (as proven by this and just the fact the theory exists). And most people ask "then who created God". Well, guess you're f*cked. You can't believe anything you dumbsh*ts. I guess we weren't created then, I guess we don't really exist. Honestly, I don't understand how anyone couldn't believe in a Higher Power or even Higher Powers. It's insane.
1'd not for religion, but for logical fallacy. I just about hit the roof with the fish ---> birds deal. If you believe, you believe, and that is all. Don't make up proof for your faith when you damn well know there is none. Your arguments are just about as logical as me saying "I felt like being pissed off today, so you must have made this YTMND just especially for me!".
Yo XeroCi, I respect that you've got beliefs and what not but it's not as though the Big Bang idea is that less likely than a higher power being real. If everything must have been created, it only naturally begs the question of the creator's origins. So I guess just because you don't like the idea of god being created, an unanswerable question is a stupid one. Just because the answer to a question isn't obvious doesn't mean an answer doesn't exist. Isn't that the whole damned POINT for following a religion?
It's funny that certain religions try to define the creations and motives of a being that supposedly is beyond definition. As long as you're here one thing is certain: you don't know god, you don't understand god, you don't spread the word of god. Good call on investing money in the name of religion. Even if we can't understand god...we know he loves the green.
Dr. Hovind is currently under investigation by the IRS. He claims that since he is a servant of God he has no possessions or expenses. If you had read some quantum theory like we had kindly asked, you whould have seen that energey can be made into matter. If you had read some M-theory, you would know how energy can come into a universe. Also, Jesus loves Dick(halo cheney)
Evolution is real. If the only animals of a group that live to reproduce share traits, those traits are genetically passed on. Humans bring this about themselves through selective animal breeding and eugenics programs. If genetic mutations can yield extra limbs and heads, is it so unfathomable that bone structures and oher phenotypes can change? Bacteria gain resilience to medicine daily and change in both form and function. The evidence unfolds before our very eyes. No god brings it about.
"right, two chiuces: 1. Somebody made the world 2. The world made
itself matter can't create matter... k" Are you deliberatly misunderstanding? The world did not create itself, it came about after the Big Bang (which did not create matter, it just created planets, stars, ect out of existing matter) and came into it's current position by the laws of physics. This is the most reasonable scientific theory, and it makes sense from observing the positioning of the celestial bodies.
"$250,000 to prove evolution: http://www.drdino.com/articles.php?spec=67" What he's asking for is literally impossible to prove. He actually asks to prove evolution, in which he includes the formation of the universe for some reason, took place without the guidance of God. Scientists can prove evolution, but they can't disprove God (don't get any ideas, it's impossible to totally disprove almost anything - and there is NO EVIDENCE for god whatsoever, as opposed to overwhelming evidence for evolution)...
Sooooo if you live some place where no one knows about the idea of a Christian God you don't get any miracles and you get to go to hell in the bargain. It's amazing how bad you can make anything look when you change facts like saying the first life was fish instead of aquatic bacteria and add "just by chance" to everything when stuff like breathing oxygen exists because we have oxygen and not the other way around.
You twist the facts to think that how we are right now was predestined and that it could only have been by chance only that things happened the way they were supposed. Maybe the conditions here are just right for life because life sprang up under *gasp* just these conditions? If the entire earth was covered in water, we wouldn't have evolved into human beings and then drowned and be like "sh*t I wish God had made more land."
Why must people always confuse the term "evolution" with "anything that goes against christian belief". Evolution has nothing to do with the creation of the universe or the creation of life. Evolutionary theory already has those two events as a given. Evolution has to do with the changes in life over time, which to deny... is insane. To deny evolution is to deny animal extinction, disease, ecology, and numerous other things. Please know what you're refuting before you refute it.
http://www.drdino.com/articles.php?spec=67 is SO funny. He wants people to prove a theory of evolution that not a single person in the universe believes in, because it is preposterous. His theory of evolution talks about the universe coming from nothingness because of evolution! Evolution is a theory about living organisms, not lifeless matter. Lifeless matter belongs to chemistry and physics, and neither of these claim that the world came from nothing. Fail.
Being angered by stupidity isn't intolerance Roar-was-taken; It's common sense. I can be completely tolerant of someone's beliefs and still say they're stupid. If Hovind was content in this being his "belief" none of us would care. It's the fact he tries to pass it off as science that makes so many of us want to hurl.
No one's giving it a 1 because it's about a beautiful world. It's not; the YTMND that linked assorted images of tranquility while playing the song from "American Beauty" was. This is an attempt to knock down "evolution," which is now used to describe anything against Christianity, using wording instead of logic.
What I really enjoy about ID is that it revolves around a Christian god, while at the same time saying that it's unbiased theory. Greek paganism was closer to describing the begining of the universe, Chaos disolved into order, not order springing out of someones ass. Oh, and the Greek word for order: Cosmos
Squiggle1337, that guy is not going to be "talking about" any of the evidence that exists, because he will not believe any evidence for something he does not want to believe. That's how religion works. Also, all evolution is "micro-evolution." Ever wonder why evolution is said to take millions and millions of years? Permutations of tiny changes over millions of years adds up to large changes. It's simple logic. I can't observe evolution or God. It makes equal sense to believe neither if that's your logic
@sethola - Actually, it wasn't topped off with Christianity. The excerpt he put in didn't mention Christ, or the holy trinity at all. All it really said was that there is a god out there and we know it.
@hobbe - Religion isn't about how, it's about why, which is the prime reason that science and religion can exist together.
I find it a shame that so many go about thinking that things they learned in highschool disprove god, when in reality they've only improved their understanding thereof.
... the bible says god created the heavens and the earth, but it doesn't say how. That's where science comes in. Through science we have several theories, the big bang being the most accepted, as to how the universe came to be. But science only answers how. For what reason did the universe come to exist? That's where we look to religion for the answer. So any scientist who thinks they disprove god, and any religious person who thinks their religion disproves a science for that matter, is wrong.
wow. i just watched the whole thing. what a load of sh*t. You must be very ignorant. there was a lot of things leading upto creatures starting to form. Anoin has an awesome quote to religion: Before we had
science, when people couldn't explain things, they made them up. All God is
is a myth left over from earlier times. The whole concept is useless and
outdated now
I thought I'd add another thing: Your vastly underwhelming human mind cannot grasp the size, or age, of this universe. Your petty attempts at degrading the theory with statements like "by chance" mean nothing to such an ageless, boundless thing. Many "by chances" will happen in a vast void. Your life means nothing to it.
Oh dear, I don't understand something so it must be God. There's a big, bright light in the sky and I don't know what it is- it must be a god driving a flaming chariot across the sky. The volcano keeps erupting unpredictably- it must be a god and we must sacrifice virgins to keep it happy. Can't you understand that it's okay to not understand everything. There is no magic. Don't be scared.
Prove evolution!? Hah! I think you misunderstand the meaning of the word "theory", sir. This is what separates Science from Religion--science changes as new evidence comes to light, but religion remains static regardless of evidence. Whenever a notion about evolution is proved wrong, it is changed to accomodate. No one "believes" in evolution anymore than anyone "believes" in the theory of gravity--most of which was disproven by Einstein, so science adjusted. Religion does not adjust.
