Patriotic poopie; I am equally sad when it happens elsewhere on a daily freaking basis.

3000 people die in a single explosion every day?

I was home with the flu watching TV the minute it came on the news. Within the same hour, they announced the pentagon had been hit. I thought the world was going to end that day.

Two explosions actually, but my point was that we basically just joined the rest of the world's 21st century.

just because people die in other places does not mean that we are not allowed to mourn our own dead. there is no justification for the murder of civilians in any circumstance, including americans.

I'm sorry if people didnt like it, i thought that deaths of thousands of people was important, this is a sad day in history, for me

what do narvs have to do with this :?

there's going to be a million clone sites

and to remind people of 9/11 is one thing that tends to piss me off

love the way you guys have politicised death of innocents.

'there's going to be a million clone sites,' yet this one may be the lowest rated.

The estimated civilian bodycount in Iraq since US Intervention is at the minimum 41,650. Where is the memorial for that? I'm fairly certain most if not all of those people had nothing to do with 9/11 or any kind of evil, scary plot. My bet is that they were everyday people like those who died in New York, though maybe with some obvious religious, ethnic, language, and/or political views. But my point still stands, it's hypocritical to focus on one tragedy because it happened here while overlooking others entirely.

One tragedy was 5 years ago, one is happening now, and yet we focus on one and don't even consider the other.
September 10th, 2006

its natural for a country to mourn their own dead. if a lack of a memorial for some other tragedy disturbs you, by all means, do what you can to commemorate it.

it's the same as the people who proclaim "SUPPORT OUR TROOPS"

Well, how about this one then. In Iraq since 03/19/2003, 2,666 American soldiers have lost their lives while 19,945 have been wounded. Those are our people and they're being sent to die and kill in a war that has nothing to do with anything relevant to the average American's life. How do they get away with it? Mostly because people love their mindless patriotic drivel, namely by justifying everything, even if it doesn't even stand up to reason or logic whatsoever, by a tragedy that happened 5 years ago.

trying to sound like they have something to say, but they don't
September 10th, 2006

I gave an opinion laced with real facts and a strong point, is that not having something to say?

you insult the families of real dead people when you say that. every time blood is shed in anger, it should be remembered, so that it is not repeated. as i said. make your own memorial.

Just wait, some Loose Change fans will start pretending to know what they're talking about really soon.
September 10th, 2006

Perhaps you can take it as an insult, but by you feeling warm and fuzzy at this, are insulting the families of those who have yet to die over this insanity.

the main reason the tragedy of iraq has not been commemorated is that it is still taking place. i can garantee you that it is on the minds of every man in power that we find a way to minimize the amount of bloodshed, now that we are in this terrible situation. the only difference of opinion is how this is done.

It's not as though I'm not hurt by what happened, I really am, but I refuse to keep bringing it up as though it is going to help anything.
September 10th, 2006

I'm more concerned with the bloodshed now, basically.
September 10th, 2006

how do i hurt others by mourning the dead? what kind of sick reasoning are you using here? the memory of the people lost on 9/11 is just as important as those lost today and tomorrow.
September 10th, 2006

you put up a website commemorating those lost in the ongoing wars in the middle east, I'll five star it, and some other f*ck like you will come along and one star it, politisizing death.
September 10th, 2006

It is important, yes, but not if you focus on that one event instead of the insanity that has been spawned as a result of that event.
September 10th, 2006

Life, as long as there are people and opinions, is going to have politics. I don't really see how trying to use ugly words detracts from my point in the slightest here.

this is not exclusive. i dont know how many more ways that i can phrase this.

I also don't think that YTMND is the right place to commemorate death. Comedic sites are probably the wrong venue.
September 10th, 2006

you notice the page says 'still sad'. not angry, not proud, not god bless america, not support our troops

ytmnd is what you make it.

You're right, it does, but I do know that this will spawn a lot of anger. It's an emotional subject, obviously.

I don't really understand your outrage, I simply put my ideas out there, and tried to make my own point. To blame me for it doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
September 10th, 2006

this is dissapointment. i have stated in unequivocal language exactly why i blame you.

Coolix, I understand why you made it. I really am not trying to be a jerk here, I just probably got a little carried away with my point. I apologize anyhow for causing this kind of a discussion, I'm sure it wasn't what you were intending.

the reason I dislike the slogan "never forget" is it's ignorant proposition that the public will forget 9/11, I mean COME ON

You guys are silly.

more likely to forget the genocide of the armenians, the rape of nanjing, the overwhelming amount of cluster bombs the us dropped on laos that are still live and lethal, we could go on all day

I guess I just said what I did because I see more atrocities and death being spawned by this and it deserves mention. The "revenge" mentality that some took on after this has caused a lot of ugliness.

remember the Chris Farley interview show on SNL? when he would have a conversation with a celebrity but all he would say was stuff like "Remember that scene in that movie. It was awesome."

bin ladin wanted a war of the west against islam, and he got it.
September 11th, 2006

Yes, you can't really blame us for this. In all fairness if 9/11 didn't happen the war in Iraq would not be happening.
September 11th, 2006

Iraq has nothing at all to do with 9/11. It was simply a country that the administration was itching to have a war with and they got a great excuse. Meanwhile, the people are so blind by grief that they let it happen, and some even to this day, still think that Iraq had something to do with 9/11.
