Informative YTMNDs "FTW"!
September 15th, 2006
(0)
I'm sure a lot of people knew about the HUDF and have already read about it before this ytmnd. I'm one of them, too. That doesn't change how terrifying this ytmnd is delivered. Remember, ytmnd = Picture, sound, text. Not just picture.

A little overrated but still decent, and it seems to have reignited some scientific interest in some people about our universe, so I'll 4 it (should help bring the ratio down) :)

I didn't come to YTMND to learn about the universe. If I wanted to learn something, I'd take an astronomy course in school. However, "lol, grab a snickers" saves this from a 1.

Space is a conspiracy theory, all those pictures could easily be made with computers or even basic photo manipulation, Hell the world isn't even round, its just what the government, dianetics, the EU, and the catholic church want you to think.

NEDM
September 15th, 2006
(0)
You know, I am sorry but I know feel compelled to completely downvote this. As I said before, the success of this YTMND is dependant on the ingnorance of others. I think it says something that it got this well rated. So in an effort to combat the obnoxiously stupid 5s and the nauseating presence of the YTMND itself I vote one.
September 15th, 2006

i was expecting nedm, but i got Lol, Astrophysics. Cool Stuff

This would be interesting if I hadn't already known about this for some time. Also, be careful what you say about how old the Universe is, the Big Bang has been proven a valid theory, but there are some mysteries still to work out. By the way, that galaxy is as big as it is because scientists have discovered a direct relationship between galaxy size and the size of the supermassive black hole in the center. So, no galaxy is too big as long as a seed is there for it to form around.
September 15th, 2006
(0)
Stolen from youtube. Or at least not properly cited.
September 15th, 2006
(0)
I don't think words can describe something so vast. If there are 10,000 or more galaxies in that one TINY patch of sky, then there could be potentially TRILLIONS of galaxies! My... brain holder... pain...

what roq said made a lot of sense to me, aside from humanity doing that of course, other civilizations COULD possibly do that (assuming standard sci-fi laws of aliens always being much more advanced than us)
September 15th, 2006

i remember a astronomy prof showed me this pic a long time ago in class. it blew my mind then, it still does now. only 800 million yrs old, truely amazing and baffling that existence is made of such things

5 for not throwing NEDM at us.
September 15th, 2006

The large Galaxy that "Technically shouldn't exist" should be explainable by "Dark matter", this is, not touchable, seeable, or otherwise percievable matter, but matter existing in a seperate Brane, but who's gravity is cast, like a shadow, onto our own. Of course, that's theoretical nonsense.

You know what's disheartening? Although the universe may very well be teeming with life, it may be physically impossible for any of those civilizations to ever contact one another... in essense, we may very well be alone, despite the existance of other life... we are alone.
