Damn the downvoters are out in full fury right now. This should be at least a 4.3 for informative value. First, trying to stop the production of cassette recorders. Then shutting down file sharing services and suing users. Then invasive DRM which is moronic as it takes NO TIME to rip a CD and make unprotected files. Now this? Guitar tabs? What next, suing people for humming copywritten tunes?
September 26th, 2006

A downvote for this site is an upvote for the RIAA
September 26th, 2006
(0)
mysongbook.com was hit by this too. sucks.
September 26th, 2006
(0)
anotherpowerpoint.ytmnd.com ... Read this before you make a slideshow. Yours has no glowing text, font is sized incorrectly, and your images are awful. Also, this isn't a parody so you really should use your own music and name... because as it is this is just a poorly executed rip-off.
September 26th, 2006
(0)
1'd for posting something that has been happening for at least a year
September 26th, 2006
(0)
God damn. They'll sue anyone they can get their hands on. Somebody needs to stop these morons.
September 26th, 2006
(0)
How do you copyright the strings on a guitar? Let's take piano keys away too.
September 26th, 2006
(0)
http://www.mysongbook.com/ has been raped of all the commercial song tabs.
September 26th, 2006
(0)
This has been happening for such a long time. www.Ultimate-guitar.com is based out of russia, so they can't touch'em
September 26th, 2006
(0)
This is one of those things that I just can't force myself to give a sh*t about even though I probably should.
September 26th, 2006

Sponsor this, save guitar tabs.
September 26th, 2006
(0)
Heres the solution! Dont pay for music ;)
September 26th, 2006

PearLyrics an automated program that looks for lyrics (and tabs) of songs playing in your iTunes has also been KILLED for the same reasons http://www.pearworks.com/pages/pearLyrics.html Luckily the program still works and I have a backed up .dmg Next they'll be stopping autistic children with pitch perfect hearing playing music they hear on the radio.

September 26th, 2006
(0)
i don't read that slowly
September 26th, 2006
(0)
This action is about as useful as the RIAA's challenge on stopping the downloading of MP3's. They just want to be put in the newspapers. The first thing you'll ask is "Why is the MPAA trying to stop something that has to do with MUSIC, not MOVIES?" The reason is they are being fed out of the hands of the RIAA. Big shock. Sign the petition if you think it will help: http://www.petitiononline.com/mioti/petition.html

Sh*t!! I use Guitartabs but I haven't been there lately. Some serious business is gonna happen if these regulations go any further.
September 26th, 2006
(0)
What about buskers who use popular songs in their acts to make money? Or large chain stores that pump in music through their com system? Or DJs who buy music, and then turn around and play it for others? Is that all not the same use?
September 26th, 2006
(0)
+3 for "YTMND FTW!!!"
September 26th, 2006
(0)
Also, I forgot to mention, the song you used appeared in the YTMND soundtrack, volume 12. It's called The Rise of Satan, by kingj4life3.
September 26th, 2006

September 26th, 2006

September 26th, 2006

This is outrageous.
September 26th, 2006
(0)
ultimate-guitar.com gg kk thx bai
September 26th, 2006
(0)
You could learn the old fashion way and infringe by ear, like I do. Im not bad at guitar either...
September 26th, 2006
(0)
I remember people getting shut down for tablature back 10 years ago. The lunacy is as true today as it was then. In those days, the cure was Usenet. But one thing I've recently learned about the old days.. They are, in fact, the old days.
September 26th, 2006
(0)
God. that was slow...
September 26th, 2006
(0)
"Or DJs who buy music, and then turn around and play it for others?" I hope your DJ is paying his ASCAP and BMI...
September 26th, 2006
(0)
Almost every guitar tab site that I know of has been closed down. However, www.ultimate-guitar.com has not been closed down because it's run out of Russia and therefore RIAA, being an American industry, cannot touch that website.
September 26th, 2006
(0)
oh noes! btw, you spelled your name properly, except the crazy brit way=pink floyd
September 26th, 2006
(0)
The record companies are so f*cking greedy. People are resisting the fact that we're moving toward a point where all information is free, and nothing of non-material nature can be sold. It will take a while, but it'll happen. It's similar to how oil companies don't want us to have electric cars because they won't be able to charge us for
September 26th, 2006
(0)
http://ultimate-guitar.com Still up and running!
September 26th, 2006
(0)
By the way, I hope the music industry realizes how much they are shooting themselves in the foot. Think of how many people will stop listening to certain groups because they can't play along with the tabs. A TON of artists will lose money.
September 26th, 2006
(0)
yeah it sucks. oh well, guess you'll have to learn all 3 chords to those blink 182 songs by ear!
September 26th, 2006
(0)
ok...so when people aren't learning to play guitar and there aren't any new bands around. how will they make money?
September 26th, 2006
(0)
the only place I could find decent drum tabs was taken away... www.mxtabs.net!
September 26th, 2006
(0)
tslatticus has a good point for debate!
September 26th, 2006
(0)
Mantenna, how then, will people make careers out of making music, movies, games and books? I'm not saying it's impossible, nor arguing for harsher restrictions on sharing of information. But money has to come from somewhere.
September 26th, 2006
(0)
Also, when I clicked on this, I thought it was going to be about how people grow their fingernails long and stores buy them for use as guitar picks in some asian countries.
September 26th, 2006
(0)
those damn savages
September 26th, 2006
(0)
How dare you use the internet to learn how your favorite songs are played, allowing you to understand them on a deeper critical and creative level? Listen to the radio, buy the new Justin Timberlake CD, and do as you're told. DONT MAKE ME SUE U >: (
September 26th, 2006

THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO WWW.BASSMASTA.NET!!!!
September 26th, 2006

thats bullsh*t
September 26th, 2006
(0)
that sucks
September 26th, 2006
(0)
ultimate-guitar.com is leading the fight against it.
September 26th, 2006
(0)
Hm... Ya know, Cliff Notes synopsize whole novels, quote at length, & in fact, represent the original (c) work in its entirety but in an interpreted/abbreviated form... and THEY'RE very much (c) protected, under the principle that it's for educational purposes. Aren't guitar tabs like Cliff Notes for songs ? I mean, how come it's okay for copyrighted lyrics to be posted all over the net, and karaoke TV screens, ... but the guitar tabs are infringements ?
September 26th, 2006
(0)
thats absolute sh*t, Tabs have been a staple of the internet JUST as much as porn. Whats next? Will you have to pay to print a picture? Thanks for bringing this to YTMND's attention
September 26th, 2006
(0)
Wow, I haven't practiced guitar in a while, but after seeing this, I tried a couple of my old favorites: olga.net (OnLine Guitar Archive) and tabcrawler.com. Looks like they have also disappeared. Since there is no longer any content there, I can't directly prove it was a result of the NMPA, but I wouldn't be surprised. It is a sad day for music lovers.
September 26th, 2006
(0)
As much as I support music and musicians, using tabs as a crutch can be something that most guitarists/bassists tend to do. If you keep looking up tabs, then you'll get dependant on them. The reason why the MNPA does this is because people are looking up tabs instead of buying the sheet-music. (Most of the time, they have tabs IN the sheet music) Besides, you know with the sheet-music that it's right. Not everything someone posts on a tab website is correct...
September 26th, 2006
(0)
You JUST found out about this? R.I.P mxtabs (months ago). Worst point in music EVER
September 26th, 2006
(0)
i dont think it should matter, because 99% of internet tabs are so wrong i can't use them.
September 26th, 2006
(0)
ultimate-guitar.com still stands strong, but this is a huge concern to me. I learned guitar from internet tabs, and I never would have without them. The only thing this "Ban" does is force up and coming guitarists to spend money buying tab books for the one or two songs they want. I would say this means War, but I do not know how to wage this one.
September 26th, 2006
(0)
OH NOES!!1! They're going to take my piano sheet music next!
September 26th, 2006
(0)
Goodluck guys.
September 26th, 2006
(0)
damn the man and all, but looking at user submitted guitar tabs reminds me how bad most people are at guitar...
September 26th, 2006
(0)
Wow. The music industry has started wearing thier multi-coloured bow ties of sucktardism.
September 26th, 2006
(0)
"If you keep looking up tabs, then you'll get dependant on them." Not really. Alot of people use tabs just to save time, and to make sue it's as accurate as can be. But yeah, as for the copyright thing, it pisses me off. In truth the sh*t you find in magazines is usually more accurate than the stuff you buy from there books. Many times these magazine are copied onto the websites, making them more reliable than these books.
September 26th, 2006
(0)
Thanks for pointing this out. I'm spreading the word on my (rather small) website, and on a few forums I go to. I play the guitar, and this... is just wrong. D:
September 26th, 2006
(0)
raid their forums.
September 26th, 2006
(0)
So now anyone who has a website giving away guitar tabs is... A pirate? Yo ho- *shot*
September 26th, 2006

I recommend Terrorism. When you blow yourself up though, yell "FOR EBAUM!" so that we can hopefully take out both.

(0)
I miss MXTabs so much =[
September 26th, 2006
(0)
I wonder what they think the problem is with people trying to PLAY other people's music.
September 26th, 2006
(0)
tabs are basically the same as sheet music, instructions on how to play the song. That is covered by copyright. what is the problem? Do you support the unchecked free distribution of mp3s that are copy righted?
September 26th, 2006
(0)
and what do you guys propose music writers do? you know people who write music, but don't perform it themselves. why shuould performers get stuff for free while music writers get nothing? not all performers write their own music and vice versa. you don't if you are using tabs.
September 26th, 2006
(0)
I'm not a musician but, anyway, sock it to 'em.

September 26th, 2006
(0)
Thanks for all the support guys. I made it faster btw. I'll work on getting all the other sites in soon, but I can't tonight. BTW, this is my first GIF, so it's takin me awhile to do things. But yea, thanks for all the comments, good and bad.
September 26th, 2006
(0)
This is f*cking lame.. Ive been playing gitbox for 13 years now.. and i learned with tabs.. this is f*cking insane.. How is it infringement? If this is the case then can people be sued, if lets say, you were in a cover band? or Weird Al? f*cking lame!!

If I were them, I'd just make a clone site at *guitar tab url*.ru, post a link, and say "ZOMG, looks like we have some fans in Russia, LOL."

green day #1. they are just trying to get children to stop spreading sh*tty music imo

OLGA.net (online guitar archive) is also gone... bastards. Cached message: http://72.14.203.104/search?q=cache:fmfk-F_f_3MJ:www.olga.net/+olga+guitar&hl=en&gl=us&ct=clnk&cd=1
September 27th, 2006
(0)
While I think it's pretty sh*tty, at least it might stop some sh*tty college bands thinking they rawk because they learned an evanescence song on the internet.
September 27th, 2006
(0)
They have Linkin Park tabs, in conclusion, they deserve it.
September 28th, 2006
(0)
I don't play the guitar and I find this absolutely ridiculous. It makes me so mad that something useful that can teach people to learn something is being taken off the internet. I would assume most of the people who use the tabs from these sites just to learn how to play the guitar better. I'm sure if any money is made off of the tabs it is a very small amount. This organization needs to get its head out of its ass. This is ridiculous.
September 28th, 2006
