Apple 'is' trying to be cool. That's their target audiance. The 'cool' kids
meaning, the non tech savvy kids that knows you can have a pc that's twice as powerful
as a top of the line mac but for half the cost and none of the bullsh*t.
It's like windows basiclly, you appeal to the people who generally aren't tech savvy, like
more than 90% of the general poulation of the internet and you'll make a hit product.
Linux + PC = ftw. Sorry apple users, you're just comeing across as ignorant now :)
Well of course they are trying to "appear cool". My question is why is it such a bad thing? It's called marketing folks. Everyone does it. That is the way they make their money. Even your beloved PC companies do it. If thats the worst criticism you can come up with for Apple, then you aren't trying very hard.
OMG They advertise cool and yet they advertise that they don't advertise cool to some other people. It's all advertising, not fact. "Because of sites like this YTMND is quickly becoming a powerful way to call
politicians, CEOs, religious leaders and more on their bullsh*t, keep up
the good work." Sorry, but you're an idiot. Overstatement of the century. YTMNDs have marginal "power" at best, especially in the current format where these sites are neither prominent nor have much staying power on the front page
Most importantly, however, is to realize that all interviews and press releases are 100% marketing and 0% anything else. Government filings are where you get you facts... If you get your facts from the mouth of the beast, as shown, you're likely to get conflicting evidence as long as people take advertising as fact. Taking both contradictory sides of an argument is not wrong in marketing, it's creative. People that give marketing campaigns credibility, as this site does, are the fools.
cool is completely subjective. what makes you think some black figure on a billboard is cool? you seem to have found a forgone conclusion.. you're trying to say, how can apple not be trying to be cool, when in fact, it was them not trying to be cool and doing their own thing that made them cool in the eyes of the consumer in the first place. as for the last pic, that could be some kind of irony.
"cool is completely subjective." Not entirely. While everyone has their own tastes, as with attractiveness, there is always a general trend to which society gravitates in both areas. Whether it's PC or not (politically correct, not personal computer :P) there will always be a 'cool' crowd. By advertising themselves as the younger, more hip, white and smooth-edged, I do things as I please crowd, they are in fact appealing to what is considered 'cool' now. To judge them for this isn't justified; it's CONT
CONT just good business. You want people to buy your product, you make it appear more desirable. For Mr. Jobs to deny that his company is doing this is just silly. Although, not wanting to be cool is cool too so maybe it is all part of the scheme. Who knows?! As an end note, I'd like to reiterate that never within the YTMND itself does it ever say that Macs are horrid, inferior, or dumb. It just shows that Jobs' statement is kind of "assnine". Lol, do a barrel roll!
"For Mr. Jobs to deny that his company is doing this
is just silly." If the truth doesn't help sales, then telling the truth is silly and not the converse. Why would you say something that you don't have to say if it is going to hurt sales? Get a brain, people. He doesn't have to answer any of their questions, so he'll answer their questions however they want them answered. Pandering generates sales, and if you don't pander you get ripped and get bad reviews. Critics have no integrity, so pandering wins.
"He's not denying it. He's publicly denying it. Big difference. One gets him publicity, which is advertisement, which benefits his company. Advertising =/= sworn testimony." The title of the YTMND is "Steve Jobs' Subliminal Advertising". We know it's him advertising. Doesn't mean it isn't BS though.
these sites are pretty funny, but for both the PC and apples sake, the actual computers have different applications, apples run programs like photoshop and premiere better while PC's ae more suited to games, due to the wider selection. Another thing, apple has a very successful advertising campaign, if you went through and looke for every lie bill gates has told i am sure it wouldn't be hard to cath him in a lie either. but still pretty funny.
