For starters, it's NOT SPYWARE, all they do is log your IP address so they know where the hell you're playing from, something ANY WEBSITE ON THE INTERWEB CAN DO. And as for the in game ads, so far if they've put any in I've never seen any of them. I'm not some EA fanboy, I'm just sick of retards whining about what's not even there.
"I'd rather face a few ads and play online FOR FREE than have to pay monthly subscriber fee junk like MMORPG players get raped with." Umm, since when have you had to pay to play online fps games? Ads is just because they found another way to make more money. You buy the game, you can play online FOR FREE in fps games.

FOR FREE in fps games." Well they tried it once with Planetside, though I think that game tanked. I'm just saying people are whining over ads (that I've never even seen, and I play the game a lot) and FPS gamers have it much better than RPG'ers.
Wow. Way to fall for an internet rumur.
All the "spyware" of BF2142 does is learn what region you live in. That way it can put up a Pepsi ad in English instead of German.
Also, I've been playing it recently, and I only have ads for EA!
Seriously, if you are getting your panties in a bunch over this thing, you need to GTFO of the internets.
It's not spyware exactly. It just monitors how long you look at adverts on walls and stuff in the game, using anonymous methods. If some guy was doing market research to check an area to see how many people are looking at adverts on a billboard no one would have a problem. Also the revenue earned through in game advertising will lead to a fall in game prices, something that I've wanted for a long time!
Another thing, Spyware or IP logging, either way what business does it have in a GAME. NONE. EA being greedy *ssh*les as usual. Making a MOD of a already broken and dated engine and adding Spyware and advertisments into it (instead of fixing the damed thing) and charging people full price ($50 USD) as if it was a brand new game. My suggestion would be to wait for the modders (real game makers) to release their mods. Forgotten Hope 2 looks good.
Big deal - no adverts actually effect your gameplay.
The spyware isn't actually spyware - because you know it is there.
EA rush things, so what? I sure would - it's not like they care about every single tiny thing.
And they shouldn't have to, as no one cares at the end of the day (unless they're like moaning babies)
It's not going to affect the game at all, and it's an awesome game. Yes, its spyware, but it's integrated into the BF2142 game files, and is not it's own program. Just because EA is a big company makes all these whiney bitches complain, it makes me mad. Why arent you complaining about Wild Tangent games containing spyware, or the ACTUAL spyware that all the small companies put into their programs? Just stop- Don't play the game for whatever reasons, and take a STFU pill.
lol @ EA fanbois, all they're games suck anyway. They are made inefficiently and require a sh*t ton of computer power, I can run half life 2 and medium settings 1024x800 with no lag on a Geforce2, My Geforce 2 would probably explode t rying to run battlefield vietnam +. Not to mention they are all rushed, and that makes them even sh*ttier and buggy.
Yeah, go ahead, just keep supporting EA no matter what they do. It's only a matter of time before you'll start getting things like pop ups in future games. I wonder if you idiots will try to find some way to justify that too. Face it, everything about 2142 is just EA trying to milk their BF cash cow, and you people are falling for it. The game isn't even good. It's the same exact thing as BF2, but of course some just buy it without hesitation anyway.
agreed, the demo and full version (played for like an hour) are quite terrible, battlefield 2 was funner cause helicopters could barrel rolls. Ofcourse there is spyware and advertising everywhere, that's the world we live in today. A world of Mcdonalds, Microsoft and coke... but a game is not the place for tv like advertising. They COULD have been creative, and do what alot of companies do and advertise cleverly, shoot a drink machine and coke spews out, windows screen savers on random computers, etc etc...
I actually don't give a sh*t about advertising if it means a cheaper product (WHICH BF2142 isn't). Why don't they treat it like television and have advertising but make it much less costly to buy. Then the advertisers will have a much larger gaming audience and will want to pay EA/DICE more in order to advertise in-game and thus the consumer benefits as well as the producer.
", I can run half life
2 and medium settings 1024x800 with no lag on a Geforce2, My Geforce 2

what the f*ck. i used to have a Geforce 2 quarter of a year ago. battlefield vietnam ran fine. and half life 2 ran horribly on LOW settings at 600X800. how much ram does your comp have? my old one only had 256 mb.
and yes. EA suck. they are the microsoft of the gaming world. all they do is take games and churn out a thousand sequals only slightly improving things along the way. they dont even bother bringing out patches, and when they do all they did was anal f*ck games. plus their whole interwebs gaming thing sucks, their passwords and usernames get raped constantly, i made 7 accounts for far cry and none of them worked.
Couple things wasn't pepsi sponsoring not coca-cola. The game is much better than bf2. Tell you the truth bf2 should run of this modified engine. And the ads well first theirs no secondary app that does this, it is built into a game. And if your scared of someone logging your ip address you should immediately unplug your internet due too how do you think someone IP Bans your from a site, Teamspeak, Etc?. The world is just not used to this yet eventually it will be the norm.
Sadly, in-game advertising is the way of the future for online games. Marketing folks are looking for "new avenues" to push their products- and now that WoW is an icon with millions of players; it's been realized that online gaming in it's various forms is just as large a market as network television. On network TV; the average 30 second spot will earn the broadcaster 10 dollars per 1,000 viewers. Obviously this is not a big money maker in BF2142; but it's the beginning of atransition.
You know, unless you actually TRY to look for the ads you're not going to see them, I know I had to (and it took me a while too). I mean is anyone going f*cking try and spot the Coke logo when they're playing? Otherwise, it's a pretty solid game as far as gameplay goes. O NOES the gunships can't barrel roll, you're honestly saying you'd prefer a BF2 clone as opposed to something slightly different? Asides from that don't buy the f*cking game then unless you already did.
omg ya this is so true...EA has come out with some great games but they are the biggest *ss holes in the videogame buisness hands down...they have no right to put spyware on our computers (which is on 2142) to track what websites we visit(it tracks you ip's and relays them to ea to "pick advertisements apropriet for your region" instead of haveing a "Choose your region" selector which would be the smart thing to do! and there really isnt a + to the adds because the game still costs $60!
