Untrue. Yoda trained all the young Jedi as seen in episode II.
(1)
'Tis a joke, tFighterPilot. Besides, it's obvious that Lucas thought of Obi-Wan as Yoda's apprentice when he was doing the original trilogy ("Was I any different, when you taught me?").
(2)
Also he says "THE jedi master," not "A jedi master." Implying the ONLY one who taught him.

Maybe Yoda taught him, but then he went out on assignment with Qui Gon Ginn. After all, a policeman is not under the same superior officer he was when he was in the police academy, a soldier who is in the field is not under the same drill seargant that he was when he was in boot camp, so on and so forth...

I was pissed Qui Gon wasn't in Ep III. Why mention him if you're not going to put him in the movie?

Liam Neason didn't want to be in it.

I don't blame him, people's acting careers usually die once they star in a Star Wars movie, Harrison Ford and Samuel L. Jackson being the exceptions

I think BudzaHatesYou is right. First Greedo, then the Emporer, then Boba Fett, then Anakin. I'm surprised Lucas missed this! And I'm glad. He'll probably have to make another DVD release now, heh.

So has anyone dredged up a sh*tload of stuff from the books to debunk this? 'cause it'd be fun to have someone to laugh at.

Yoda instructed ALL the Jedi. So it's NOT false. Love your other YTMNDs, though.

Wow, this "discontinuity problem" is from Episode I, and it was proven wrong back then, too. Yoda is the only surviving Jedi Master who could teach Luke, and he also taught Obi. Jinn couldn't cuz he was dead.
(2)
OK, look. Obi says "there you will learn from Yoda, the Jedi Master who instructed me." In context, he's referring to *THE* person who trained him as a Jedi - the one guy that made him into a Jedi Knight. And then later, Yoda talks about Luke being
(3)
too impatient and headstrong, and Obi-Wan says "Was I any different, when you taught me?" It's implied that Yoda dealt with Obi-Wan as a rebellious teenager - which DOESN'T fit with the idea of Yoda teaching him before Qui-Gon got ahold of him. So
(3)
even if you concede that Yoda trained all the Younglings - which was never actually said in the movie, it just showed him teaching ONE class to SOME of them - it's still pretty obvious that Lucas originally intended Yoda to be the only one who taught Obi

ROTJ: "I thought that I could instruct him just as well as Yoda. I was wrong." Wouldn't he mean just as well as Qui-Gon? More support for the fact that Lucas originally intended Yoda to have been Obi-Wan's teacher, and not some guy named Qui-Gon.

I dunno, "You will go to the only Jedi Master that wasn't totally slaughtered by the Secret Nazi Emporer and his 1337 code transmitted by hologram, lol" It just doesn't have the same ring to it.

Wasn't Qui-Gon just a knight? If so, it would seem that Yoda is the only Jedi Master to train Obi-Wan.
April 19th, 2007

No, Qui-Gon was, indeed, a master. He just wasn't on the jedi council.

Alec got his lines wrong and refused to overdub them. "Oooh, look at me, I'm SIR Alec, I get a percentage of profits from the first movie, I can do anything I want."

yeah but yoda gave him the "commune with the dead" training, its technically true.
(-1)
See above. "Was I any different, when you taught me?" refers to Obi-Wan being impatient/headstrong like Luke when Yoda trained him. Obi-Wan was already a Jedi when Yoda taught him that, so he'd be long past that.
April 28th, 2007

I remember Yoda having some "training" for Obi at the end of Episode III. Maybe that's what was meant.

Yoda technically trains everyone is this is wrong

It's not Lucas's fault. It's Obi-Wan's fault. He was dead, and he was in a hurry, and he was like, "Okay, I can either (A) explain that Yoda is actually one of many masters and only taught me when I was little and I actually had this other master named Qui-Gon who wanted to train Anakin before he died but died so he couldn't, or (B) I can just say Yoda trained me. Hmm..."

lucas fails

He could have just as easily been talking about the training he got that allows him to appear in "ghost form" to be talking to Luke in the first place. I realize you probably made this after AotC, but maybe take it down? Its dated and now kinda wrong.

You forget; Obi Wan still consults Yoda quite a lot throughout the PT. Yoda witnessed Obi Wan being reckless and stuff quite a lot of times. How could you forget the fact that Yoda was telling him not to train Anakin but he did anyways? Yoda instructed him to kill Anakin/Vader on Mustafar and he disobeyed him. There is no fail in the plot continuity here sorry. But I see where you're coming from so 2.

5/5, stop with the nay saying. Lucas sucks and is unworthy of his creation.
(0)
idk, yoda did teach him after the fall of the republic, remember? Yoda teaches ben the things that qui gon learned about life after death. That counts as instruction. Besides, there were no other jedi left, so of course ben would say yoda, who was a master, tought him, since he sort of did.

Since we're totally picking this apart for all its worth... uber-geeks as such... if you remember the first movie (SW:E1), Yoda really didn't think Obi-Wan was ready to be a Jedi, and was kinda out voted, or reluctantly went along with it. So as somewhat stated here, maybe (in an entire universe of stories that are still somewhat untold), what happened with Obi-Wan and Yoda between Episodes III and IV?

Obi-wan lies a bit however, 1. Lame excuse for breaking continuity 2. "Luke I am your father" - After Obi-wan told Luke his father is dead. I mean Lucus can't keep continuity between two movies.

Yoda did instruct Obi Wan... he may have not trained him but he definitely did instruct him

Considering Dooku turned into a Sith Lord and Qui-Gon died before Obi-Wan even became a Knight....who else would he name? After Obi killed Darth Maul, it was Yoda who personally made him a Jedi Knight and then agrees to let him teach Anakin. Yoda then teaches Obi after learning Qui-gon retained his conciousness after death. You can argue the semantics all day, but it's clear-cut that Obi was under Yoda's instruction after Qui-gon's death for the MAJORITY of his life. Eat sh*t, c*cks....I win.

I don't think it's inaccurate at all. Say you knew a young student who was going to the same college you went to and majoring in the same subject you did. The dean's still there, but all the other professors are gone. Of course you'll refer the young student to your connection to the dean.
