If someone threatened to shut down YTMND, what would you do?

This is what I would do. Sega of America's forums aren't the enemy, just ignorant of the situation. Well, all except for JoshCube. He's just a douche.

^^ Actually, Twinsen is right. Sega doesn't want control of YTMND, they want control of _a single_ YTMND, the Sonic Rape Advice one. This is of course a huge difference from the interpretations of most people. Nevertheless, I somehow doubt that YTMNDers would be willing to capitulate even if all they wanted was one site.
The proof of this is in the term "Website." Note the capital letter there. The lawyer has marked the Sonic Rape Advice YTMND with the label "Website." Therefore, EVERY SINGLE USE of the word "Website" after that point refers to the Sonic Rape Advice YTMND. You will notice that they wish to take control of the Website, not the website.
I didn't see your second post there, syckls. Aside from repeating you a bit, the point I made is still valid; however, it doesn't really matter that much as Max isn't probably willing to give an inch or a mile. Unless Sega Blinks, this case is going to court. The reason I made this ytmnd is becuase I'm tired of all the petty "ZOMG FORUM RAID 9:00 EST!!one" bullsh*t that seems to go on when we are threatened. There are better ways of dealing with our business than that. Besides, if YTMND does
Sega didn't threaten to shut down YTMND. They demanded that ytmnd be turned over to them or face legal action. Since the demand is ludicrous and their case is frivolous, to respond to your poorly phrased question I would do nothing, and that would be plenty. If we all, collectively, do nothing, that will be more than enough.
What exactly do you think Sega would do with ytmnd after they acquired it, Korf? Give it back to max and say "now behave this time, or else"? No. They would either destroy it, or turn it into something else, where it wouldn't be YTMND anymore. If that isn't equivalent to shutting down ytmnd, I don't know what is.

YTMND patriotism is retarded. I'm going to send a message to max saying that I am a martian invader and I will take control of ytmnd unless he deletes all sites referring to extra terrestrials and then you can post a ytmnd of a screenshot of your post on an ET friendly message board asking them to contact the martians and beg to rescind the threat and get a bunch of 5's because that's as likely to threaten the ownership of ytmnd as this silly empty threat from SEGA.
"They would either destroy it, or turn it into something else, where it
wouldn't be YTMND anymore." If that happens I would believe that some dude would make PTKFGS. Then if that succomes to Sega YESYES would be made. Then if we don't survive that we'd fragment into 4th universe knockoffs of YTMND. I don't think anyone could kill this site without someone trying to recreate it at least once.
I, for one, am officially quitting my old support of the radical actions of certain YTMNDers. Geezy, you've really made a point here. While I do think that Sega MAY have intended to only target one of our websites in particular, the lawyer had the most awful wording that I've ever seen. If max goes to court over this, he can simply use the lack of clarity as a weapon against Sega. I love Sega games, I do, but I suppose the European board just couldn't keep its grubby hands away from an easy publicity stunt.
In response to some of my downvoters; Korf, if I'm the dumbest person alive for supporting YTMND thusly, then I'm the dumbest person alive. These threats are taking a toll on YTMND, whether we like to admit it or not; I'd just rather stop the bleeding here rather than have raiders put YTMND into an early grave.
Predator90: As far as self-promotion, this YTMND is what it is. I made it for the sole purpose of bettering YTMND, not for personal recognition. I wasn't the only one from YTMND participating in that discussion on the forums; look at the thread and see for yourself. If you think creating ytmnds are easy, you should try for yourself. Hell, you can see my track record. It's not pretty.

That is the dumbest thing anyone has ever said. There is absolutely no legal precedent of any kind of a company violating copyrights and being penalized by having to hand over control of the company to the plaintiff. It's a ridiculous statement. That you would make it makes you quite dumb. A company can be penalized financially or ordered to shut down, but never absorbed. That's ludicrous. The demands are mere fearmongering and nothing more.
There is an exactly 0% chance that max would be forced to hand over his site to SEGA, a slightly higher chance that Sega would ever win any legal case against YTMND, and a substantially higher chance that SEGA would actually take YTMND to court. That substantially larger probability? Probably about .01%. "This is the reason why I fight so hard for YTMND
when I see it's name slandered." It's a good thing you don't fight for grammar. Its name.
I'm rather glad that Korf has such an excellent grasp on law and upon all the copyright cases, both national and international. Personally, I'm not that well versed in the subject. One thing I do understand, however, is money. Max isn't exactly rolling in it. Every legal battle he has to endure is one more that he doesn't have the money to finance. It's not a matter of if Sega would win a court case, or what they would win if they did; it's the matter of what toll it would take upon YTMND.
YTMND isn't invincible; we've seen that recently with the additions of ads to help pay for the costs of maintaining it. All we need is a few long and drawn out court cases to either put YTMND on hiatus for a while, or to end it completely. Of course, these are all worst case scenarios; maybe Max has an endless cash flow of Jew-gold or something, and maybe all these companies that like to threaten to sue us are just screwing around. But I seriously doubt both of those.
I'll simply end with this, Korf, and get back to your responses. Surely many people have said stupider things than I on this site, and there's enough gimmick voting around for you to know I'm right about that. For someone who speaks so eloquently, I'm surprised that you would have to point out a grammar error to make yourself seem better than me. However, instead of sinking to your level, I'll simply leave you with your victory, as Pyrrhic as it may be.
