But that doesn't mean that it has to be shot down to all hell. It's a unique idea to put on ytmnd. It's deserving more then a 1 star. Only things that should be 1 stared are those that have already been created. People who put in effort at least deserve a 2 star. Besides, lets say that one of these situations do happen, you'll be informed on what's truly going on. Who knows, you might make it to jeopardy and they might ask one of these questions. You'll have the information required to answer that.
Some of these things could happen, but they're not the ones that would actually wipe out humanity. No nuclear exchange would kill everyone; no Nuclear country has ICBMs trained on remote parts of tha Amazon Rainforest, or the Congo basin. Nuclear winter or asteriod aftermath may kill of most of the population, but, unless the asteroid's REALLY huge, some sunlight will still get through. Algae will not die out entirely; neither will land flora. Agriculture may be infeasible, but some fisherman would survive
The way I see it, the answer depends on you definition of human. While few people self-identify as Transhumanists, the vast majority of the world's population would be willing to recieve gradual modification (whether genetic or hardware) to extend their lives. Therefore, humanity could very well undergo a gradual, free-will transformation into something different. This is not necessarily a nightmare scenario; we would still think and act similarly, but might be, physiologically nonhuman.
dispite your CONSTANT claims that "I bet you've never even thought or heard of these before!!!!!" Yes, actually I have, to every single one except the spontaneous collapse of the quantum vacuum (wtf that means). After seeing each slide hoping for a new take I was repeatedly disappointed. It was like watching your favorite team defeated over and over again. YOU LOSE! GOOD DAY, SIR!
Interesting and informative, but I choose to believe that humanity can and will overcome these adversities and survive. I choose to believe this because to do otherwise is to choose to be destroyed, which will inevitably lead to self destruction no matter how great or slim our chances of survival really are. You can fight, or you can die. No different than any other situation mankind has been in over the past several thousand years, just greater threats and more time to deal with them.
Having browsed Exit Mundi so much beforehand makes this whole thing so... old for me. So I'll just critique the format. The back of the image and of the page background don't match, and the music loop is horrible. If it's going to have to loop so many times for your slideshow, at least have the track fade out or something.
If I could vote lower than a 1, I surely would for failing to include peak oil, ESPECIALLY since some of your so-called nonsensical scenarios are literal replicas of one another (pandemic and biotech for example). You had YTMND's attention and you chose to piss it away on sensationalist sci-fi garbage. F*ck you. I literally have no other words.
After sitting through that borefest, I noticed something that needs to corrected. The 12/21/2012 date on the Mayan Calender does NOT mean the end of the world. Look it up on Wikipedia. It is akin to the new millenium for the Gregorian calender and we all know how that turned out. I'm going to wager a guess and say the rest of the big walls of text were as poorly researched.
You wanna know what's really interesting about the religion part? You forgot to mention the fact that it's possible that the humans who believe in the "End of the world" prophecies may be so dedicated to it, that they themselves may cause it's downfall trying to go along with the prophecy, or 'knowing' that they would be 'unable to change the future' they end up causing it.
very informative! We all need to be aware of the dangers out there. Those who are prepared mentally have a better chance of survival. Even if it's as crazy as a race of extraterrestrial beings planning on harvesting human bodies for genetic engineering experiements, it's still somethinge everyone should consider as possible. Anything is possible in this universe that we don't even know exists or not.
Usually I take all of the apocalyptic theories at face value because there is always a major one every 10 years. I never understood the fear of them. Most of the scenarios you showed would be on too grand a scale for us to comprehend. If you want to read something that will really blow your mind, read up on "The Big Crunch/Bounce/Rip" Or "Big Freeze/Heat Death". To sum it all up, even if we do manage to colonize different planets, eventually the known Universe will be unable to sustain life everywhere.
*Feels an all new sense of paranoia creeping over*
Very... Um... Thought-Provoking... o_0;;;
My money's on the robots, the pandemic, nanotech leak, or any of the other "Icarus Effects". Everyone knows that humans will keep playing with things that get increasingly dangerous (Icarus and Deidalus making the wings and flying away from Crete), and before you know it we'll bone-up somewhere (Icarus flies too close to the sun) and it'll result in the ultimate extinction of life on Earth.
If I knew th world would end...
RAPE RAPE RAPE RAPE RAPE RAPE RAPE RAPE RAPE RAPE RAPE RAPE RAPE RAPE RAPE RAPE RAPE RAPE RAPE RAPE RAPE RAPE RAPE RAPE RAPE RAPE RAPE RAPE RAPE RAPE
Naw but seriously (I was serious but moving on) It hink it is gonna be pole reversal at the end of the mayan calender. Not everyone will die but I would say there will be a small group of humans left to repopulate.
Either that or aliens will come and take a select group of people and gather dna from all creatures
most of those are horse sh*t, and some of them would just drastically reduce the human population which in my eyes is a good thing. the very few that actually do have a chance of ending humanity or the entire world only have a fraction of a percent of happening within any reasonable time period. the pictures that went along with some of them are just silly. don't believe everything you hear in the news kids.
Humanity will be around forever. We will learn to create our own universe before this one collapses. We will inhabit another planet, star system, galaxy, etc.. before these collapse. Unlike you many people believe humanity is capable of anything and being around forever is something not beyond its reach. Praying is not going to achieve that goal and will only lead to humanity's falling short of it. What wont be around 4ever is you yourself and you cant stand the thought of it going on forever without u 2bad
