Last I checked, someone in my family (who doesn't live with me) watches their cable through component. They tried HDMI, but often dealt with HDCP errors and the like. Not everything that goes through HDMI uses HDCP, but when something does it's a bad case of adding DRM to fix (or break, IMO) what ain't broke, adding hardships that need not be imposed on the viewer. (I watch non-HD cable at home, but would love to ditch it for HD over-the-air once I get my own place. Cablevision is evil.)
