Now is the time to return home to the blue sky! The confetti will dance around the shrine gates. The mailbox and the refrigerator will lead the way! Anyone who cares about expiration dates will not get in the way of the glory train! They need to fully realize the liver of the triangle rulers! Now, this festival was decided by the third grade class with the telephoto camera! Move forward! Come together! I am the ultimate governor! Now! Right Now! Take me in!

I knew it was that artist as soon as I heard it, but at first I thought it was a horrible mashup with Girl in Byakkoya...

Do not watch Paprkia while tripping, or even while not tripping. It's like Spirited Away meets William Gibson and they have a messed up baby.

name voters are everywhere. this is just anime sh*t with some music in the background. barely any edits. 1 star because its overrated.

As cool as this is, ripping straight from a film is a bit lazy... - 3
June 16th, 2009

True. It is a bit lazy. I thought about ways I could edit it, but I couldn't think of any meaningful changes to make. I felt the charm and insanity of the parade would be lost no matter what I did. I thought about randomly inserting it into a movie but I thought that since the context would be exactly the same, I decided to make a nice loop instead.

Said it better than I did. Nice director's commentary, though.

And changed to 3, the loop is nice. Also, play Persona 4 (but do it on easy, too much grinding on normal, like most RPG's). You could splice animation from Persona4 and Paprika, possibly. It deals in more detail about the true self, dreams, and the like.

thank you for introducing me to this extremely surreal film. i have taken it to the next step to try and find as many films like this as a i can. this thread helped me out, now im downloading like a madman. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0851578/board/thread/77637523

I actually downloaded and watched the film after seeing this YTMND, the clip was just so over the top I just had to see the whole thing. To be honest, simply viewing this YTMND without any explanation for what is going on in the clip is less confusing than the entire rest of the movie. When I saw the clip I thought, "wtf is this!?". As I watched the movie I thought, "WHAT the F*CK is going ON!!? I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT'S REAL ANYMORE." But seriously, the movie was good. Just make sure to watch it sober

Yeah, this movie is a real mind f*ck. I'm glad I was able to encourage more people to watch it. The parade was the most memorable sequence in the movie, and it really became a staple to all of the dream madness that occurred in the movie.
June 17th, 2009
(1)
You are totally right though: seeing this gif does not really prepare you for the entirety of the film's nightmarish sequences.

Many of scenes in the movie were recycled and shown multiple times (the parade, circus, guy falling in hallway, etc). At first I thought it was just the animators being lazy and re-using animations to save time and effort, but then I realized that it fit EXACTLY into the dream theme. I have several recurring dreams (nothing as crazy as THAT but...) and seeing the same thing in several different dreams is natural. The only thing I didn't buy is when the dreams somehow became real at the end.

Also that giant doll's laugh pierced my soul. It was like the vocal interpretation of a Square Wave.

Oh yeah and those suicide newscasters would also make a good YTMND. "It's-a SHOWTIME!", and then the circus music starts and they fall like dominoes.
June 18th, 2009
(0)
Yeah, it was like a recurring nightmare that the viewers and the characters couldn't escape from, and it was eerily realistic in its depiction of dreamscape reality.
June 18th, 2009
(1)
Oh yeah my second idea was the suicides. But anyway, the dreamworld and reality beginning to merge doesn't make sense because we are thinking of such things as not being possible in the real world, but in a world where nothing makes sense (a dream world), it works. Plus, the whole movie could have been one characters delusion for all we know. They even refused to tell you how the DVMini works, or how lucid dreams could connect people to each others consciousnesses. The movie was pretty ambiguous really.

lol, sometimes it takes me a while to catch on to stuff and I never realized that Paprika was really the Chiba girl until the police guy asked the old doctor guy about it, even though I should have realized it from the opening title sequence. So did Chiba have Split Personality disorder and Paprika was her other self? And how did the DC Mini get into Himiro's f*cking skull and start crawling around?

The cool thing about wisdumcube is that he could draw a cube before anyone else in his second grade class. He drew the everloving f*ck outta those things all day every day for most of two years. It wasn't until our young hero was rounding the bend of 4th grade that the rest of humanity caught up with him.
June 17th, 2009
(1)
Actually he's literally a cube containing all knowledge in the universe. Not to be confused with the Dumbassahedratron (Fourest)
June 18th, 2009
(2)
Hey, I do think I was a pretty good artist when I was younger. And it wasn't cubes, it was circles I was good at. (The rest of the class cut out rounded squares). I always took it a step further than the other students when it came to obsessing over small artistic details...
