In the 2001 Kyoto Daishoten, Stay Gold raced against T.M. Opera O and Narita Top Road. He subsequently won the race but was disqualified due to suddenly dashing in front of Narita Top Road in an attempt to crash into T.M. Opera O, causing Narita Top Road's jockey to fall off. This caused mental distress to Narita Top Road who took about a month to recover from this incident before he could continue racing professionally. Stay Gold was known as the 'Terrorist of the Racecourse' as he would often run in a zigzag pattern and impede other horses. The jockey, Hiroki Goto, had crashed into T.M. Opera O previously while riding a different horse. After the race, the owner of T.M. Opera O berated him for crashing into him again. His riding license was then suspended for three months. Stay Gold had a habit of smelling his own feces, crying, and then proceeding to smell it again. This habit was passed onto his son Orfevre. Stay Gold bit Special Week's tail.
