I didn't realize that particular song was a cover, but I had heard that, yeah. They are one of those bands I liked a lot in highs school, but don't have as much staying power, in my mind, as a lot of other bands from the 90's. I still like a few songs, but they have a lot more shitty songs than good songs anyway, imho.

Lets go over your claim that "that whole point of creating the Federal Reserve System was that "free market" instability was killing people and ruining their lives,"

This was the public statement written by the bankers themselves or an equivalent statement. One thing I will agree with is that yes, in freer markets, there is much more instability of certain kinds. But that is mostly instability for producers. Meaning that one individual producer, as time goes on, has to face more and more new competitors who likely have better understandings of new technology and production methods. The older producer (especially if a large corporation) often has a lot of years of accumulated dead weight and bureaucracies which make it harder for it to adjust itself to be competitive with newer and more agile companies.

Is there instability for the consumers as well? Yes, the consumers have the ability to buy ever increasingly affordable products and services at a better quality from newer firms. Nowadays, we see this quite frequently with software, video games, televisions, computers, cameras, mobile phones. There are also other occurances, like with Uber and Lyft vs the old taxi companies. Today, some mobile phones have more computing power than a lot of desktops from even just 5 to 10 years ago.

Even if we set aside this logic and modern day examples, all the related economic charts actually seem to show (between 1865 or end of US Civil War and 1914) that the alleged instability in banking you speak of was actually a good thing. Prices were falling for consumer goods. More and more people were able to afford some basic things we take for granted today. Exports from the USA were on the rise compared to imports. The industrial index grew. Technology improved. People joyously immigrated to the United States by the millions and sometimes made even enough money to send back to their home countries.

Obviously, any sane person would not count slavery as being among freedom, which ended in the USA and most other countries around the world before even 1900, most of those that did, decades earlier. I also never said that the USA or England were perfect examples of minarchism or anarchism. I simply have been saying that they were a lot closer than now and had much better and more consistent upward economic growth, technological growth, social improvement, etc. They also had a currency which increased in value and was able to buy more goods for the same dollar prior to the federal reserve.

Were there poor people in those days, say around 1890 who had a hard time getting good healthcare in the USA or UK? Sure. But what country in that time would have done better? Something tells me (without looking it up) that I would have rather been a poor person trying to get it in the USA or UK in 1890 rather than in Russia, India, Mexico, Africa, etc.

"And, hey fuckwad, that whole point of creating the Federal Reserve System was that "free market" instability was killing people and ruining their lives, you shit-for-brains-on-a-stick. Get it?: IT WASN'T WORKING!! "

Thanks, but I am already aware of the official government line. Which was co-written by great guys like JP Morgan, Nelson Aldrich and other bankers. Just thought I would inform you, governments lie sometimes, usually in their own favor.

What I find so tragic and ironic about the left is that they are mostly smart enough to know better and are skeptical or outright angry when governments start illegal wars or when they increase police powers, reduce civil liberties, work with big corporations to form monopolies, abuse the homeless, have judicial misconduct, have unjust drug or alcohol laws or working with religious fanatics like Rick Santorum. However, they believe all the government lines about banking.

"You are naming the US "mostly prior to World War II" as an example of "wealth for the average person...superior healthcare system" while ignoring not one but multiple depressions (more than 40, by some methods)"

Actually I'm not. I thought that I clearly implied that World War I had more economic freedom. I guess not. Times prior to World War I had more overall personal and economic freedom within the west. You could literally buy any drug you wanted to. You could buy any form of booze you wanted to. You could easily start a business with little money in your pocket, without worrying about filling out paperwork from and paying fees to 15 government agencies. You could go anywhere on earth without a passport. If you wanted to come to immigrate to America, you just had to survive the boat ride with no horrible disease.

The most noteworthy depressions occurred long after the federal reserve, some added regulations from the Wilson era, some added regulations starting with Hoover, continuing well after Franklin Delano Roosevelt grew the government by leaps and bounds. Virtually all the economic disasters you speak of occurred almost always when the government was at it's then record for largest and most powerful.

Even the 19th century panics (which were far tinier than anything happening after Wilson) coincided with government measures like imposing greenback money, or imposing national banks on the public, or some large scale war or some other scandal involving government.

The only problem is that people are deluded enough to allow a government to remain which has the power to tax. These professional parasites then tax all the growing wealth and eventually grow to super strong governments. This is what happened with the USA and UK, and yes, even the Nordic countries.

Problems with Starship Troopers the movie:
1. IRL wars since WWI do not have infantry as frontline forces. Since then, the trend has been increasingly artillery shots, then aircraft, then tanks, then lighter vehicles (like APCs, Infantry Fighting Vehicles and helicopters, THEN infantry mops up what is left). So, why, in the future, which would logically have even less risky situations for infantry would they actually increase their role, let alone make them frontline?

2. Why would said infantry not have weapons that could NOT eliminate the enemy in about one shot? What is strange that even the Doogie Howser actor points out that the bugs need a million shots, unless you hit them in a special place. In the heat of war, hoping to hit a very tiny place is extremely unlikely. Especially when they are ridiculously outnumbered.

3. What the hell is wrong with the sergeant who threw a knife at the hand of a private? This is supposed to be a protagonist? What I thought was crazier was his justification on practicing knife throws:

"[Zim throws a knife and hits Ace's hand pinning it to the wall]
Career Sergeant Zim: The enemy can not push a button... if you disable his hand. Medic! "

This scene made no sense whatsoever. The alien bugs used neither knives nor nukes. This scene might as well been about practicing scuba diving warfare. Even if the bugs used knives, guns are way more powerful. And if the knives were for the humans, even standard assault rifles needed 100 shots to take down a bug. A knife would be a joke. If this scene was to highlight what a tough nut the sarge was, that would still not be a good enough excuse. Full Metal Jacket and other military movies displaying aggressive drill sergeants have them doing things which actually make sense.

4. Why didn't the forces of Earth just nuke the damn aliens?

Yeah, you're right. I should have, as "avant-garde" is a terrible word to describe radical cultural production practices as it merely internalizes and embodies the violent, disciplinary rhetoric (and power) of the neoliberal State. It is a military term denoting, connoting, and identifying with conservative bodies and apparatuses of control that should never have been used by or for "radical" practices. That is, there is nothing "radical" or resistant about reifying State and hegemonic biopolitics, whether through language or action.

Umfuld, c'mon! You're savvier than this. By responding to his tangential bullshit as though anything mDS has posted on this page has any relevance at all, you've not only allowed him to derail the conversation from the original topic to whatever retarded agenda he thinks he's posting about but, worse, you've given him basis for his false pretense that he is in fact engaging equally in participatory debate. He isn't. He might as well have started off by "arguing" that asteroids travel faster than Priuses and more efficiently, too. Who cares if it's correct or incorrect or whatever--it's entirely irrelevant to the conversation; it's tantamount to crap spam trolling, it's so stupid; and it completely destroyed an otherwise nuanced discussion between people who were not shitting out retarded copy-pasta from entrenched binary positions like two chimps throwing Red State and Blue State feces at each other. I may be unproductive and obnoxious in my vitriolic attacks but you are actually feeding him a steady diet of troll pellets, as witnessed by the fact that, through your response to him, he successfully dumbed down and shifted a decent conversation to whatever the fuck his binary understanding of, well, he thinks he's talking about politics and forms of governance, but we were talking about economics and the hegemony of economic power, so fuck, I dunno. Might as well give him a hand job while yr at it and reward him for being so fucking ugly, too.
