Today I found a copy of Mutter on one of my old MP3 CDs (remember when MP3 players were CD players supporting MP3 files, not flash or mini-HDD based like the iPod?), heard "Zwitter", checked YTMND, and just as I'd hoped: Dew Army FTW.

The term hamburger originally derives from Hamburg, Germany's second largest city, from which many people emigrated to the United States. In High German, Burg means fortified settlement or fortified refuge; and is a widespread component of place names. Hamburger can be a descriptive noun in German, referring to someone from Hamburg (compare London → Londoner) or an adjective describing something from Hamburg. Similarly, frankfurter and wiener, names for other meat-based foods, are also used in Germany and Austria as descriptive nouns for FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK

<unjerk>

Absolutely agree, the free to play model works better for game developers than most people expect. People end up paying more through purchasing downloadable content for F2P games like Renaissance Heroes than they would by purchasing a standalone release or subscription-based title. This model works especially well in the mobile gaming market, where pretty much most of the games today come equipped with a number of in-app purchases. People don't have problems paying for the DLC/in-app purchases, since they figure that they didn't make in initial purchase to begin with and enjoy playing the game as a whole.

</unjerk>

Moon Man is awesome and the Moon Crew is awesome KKK

I don't necessarily disagree with any of that. We're sort of saying the same thing from two different directions - the intent of the organization is good. Their execution of that intent sucks shit. You can't evaluate a political individual, let alone an entire organization, based solely on their mandate.

Most of the actual day-to-day work in environmental protection is done by state agencies. Like most federal agencies in the US, they direct where the money goes and get involved in research, so it's not really fair to evaluate their performance so much as it is to evaluate the state agencies under it...and, well, my most recent experience was in Texas. A TCEQ regulator who had jurisdiction over a rather dangerous industrial plant was fooled for three years by an inspection form that had been done once and signed 4 years ago instead of weekly like it was supposed to be, and then had the date changed with White-Out. Once every few months, he'd come around and the plant environmental manager (on parole for manslaughter) would take him out for margaritas before he would start the tour. I'm not joking or exaggerating, I wish I was.

Oh, and in Texas, there's no zoning. This plant was surrounded on all sides by low-income housing, and they had enough barrels of toxic heavy metals to qualify as a chemical weapons depot that would have made Saddam Hussein a happy man.

So yeah, I've been plenty of places where the rivers look like coffee and the USA isn't one (anymore), but that doesn't mean the govt. has its shit together either. We're too busy importing people with technical skills to do the shit we forgot how to do while our law schools churn out more lawyers than have ever been in one country in human history on our great national Race to the Bottom.

Damn this thread got serious, what the hell.

Dude, seriously, I've dealt with the EPA in my real life occupation and that's as personal as I'm going to get here - they simply don't do their jobs. At all. Same goes across the whole sector - that's why we privatize everything.

I actually agree with your overall point that hand-waving arguments about big government are stupid, because yes, someone needs to build infrastructure and that role needs to be done by the government. The problem in the U.S. is that the government sector consists of two types of people:
-Slow, unambitious people that couldn't compete in the private sector (about 90%).
-Overly ambitious people with political goals who have no concern for the job they are doing, only using it as a two-year stepping stone to get their foot in the door (about 10%).

The former is mostly bureaucratic asshats that just do the bare minimum to keep their 35-hours-a-week job and that's all they want in life. The latter is mostly lawyers. Either way, you have massive incompetence filling the lower-to-middle eschelons of the biggest consumer in the U.S. In many countries, getting a government job is seen as highly desirable - the top graduates from the top universities tend to go to government jobs because of prestige and competitive pay. Here, govt. work is seen as something "for the slow people".

Okay, you brought up the EPA. Let's say you graduated from a top engineering school like Stanford or MIT with a degree in environmental engineering - state DEP agencies (which do most of the actual environmental protection work) pay about $20k on average. The big firms pay about $85k. You worked hard to get where you are - which job would you take?

Yeah yeah government mandates are based upon public good - but their INTENT is not the question on either side. The problem is they simply don't perform. Okay seriousness over, national policy is not decided on YTMND so it's pointless to delve into this here.

Let me just say this: I grew up as a geeky teenagers on isolated military bases overseas where a phone call home meant waiting in the queue all weekend, the internet was in its early early days and the only real contact we had on a daily basis was this new thing called Usenet that hadn't quite reached the civilian market outside of a couple universities.

The point I've making is that I've been an observer of people arguing on the internet for longer than just about anyone else. We had one TV channel that just showed old sports and CNN reruns, and as entertaining as AFRTS commercials were, we had to entertain ourselves. So I watched a lot of educated people make fools of themselves online back when there were only a few thousand people there to piss each other off.

One of the most important things I've learned is this: making assumptions about your adversary's real-life characteristics is not only pointless, it just reveals your bitterness, or in the parlance of our times,
U MAD? If you take a stab in the dark like "I bet you weigh 400 pounds" or "I bet you're some 60 year old geezer who mops the floor at a Wendy's" chances are you're going to be wrong, and being wrong in that way only strengthens the other person because they can laugh at your futile attempts to analyze them.

Sorry for the seriousness pde, but watching you two go at endlessly is just a distraction and there are plenty of more entertaining flame wars that we need gr33nscr33n focused on at this time. Now if you excuse me I need to go get my weekly liposuction, pick up my social security check and go mop the floor at Wendy's.

I agree, Max, that bitcoin is still questionable as a currency alternative. This is even after people who I respect have advocated the use of it.

However, I think I will stick to normal paypal and other ways of payment.

Anyway, I want to know how much money can we raise in order to keep this site open at least 2 to 3 more months. If you feel uncomfortable, you can just tell me in private message.

Any money that comes from me will come directly via paypal or the other usual kinds of payment (based on your preference).

I was thinking it would be a good idea if I were to set up one of those thermometer fundraiser graphics that churches and political campaigns sometimes use. That way, people look like they are striving towards something tangiable.

So max, why do you still keep this site up? It can't be for the money. This site gets maybe hit by like 1k people a day at best. You obviously hate the user base here. You update the news and the contests at a rate of like once a year. That shows a bit of contempt. I can't say that I blame you. This site had the potential to become something great. A place where people could express themselves freely in any way they want without any censorship regardless of the content. Instead it turned into a cestpool of the lowest forms of scum on the internet. I guess that says something about humanity or something. It looks like the experiment failed. I say just shut it down. Right now all it is, is an unfunny legal liability for you.
