That might be a good idea, Mech. Then again, it might not be. Logistically, it's an awesome idea. Realistically, it enables people with even less creativity create spam sites. With moderation this would work out better, but I believe that if you use fad music, it should be more difficult to avoid auto-deletion (i.e. double moderation requirements). That way, we don't see a dearth of creativity inflating the site and making it less interesting.

(that isnt a diss to either "unfunny truth" or "cosby bebop", i just use them as examples of how the vote to view ratio has so drastically changed, easily inflating their scores to levels they would not acheive in a different time)

okay, 4.77 with 4500 votes is absurd, for any site. two months ago, if i'd suggested such a notion, you'd probably smack me in the face. but i don't think the loss of blind downvoting can be the only cause of such a massive inflation. could someone else please come up with some other possible factors? and those vote to view ratios Sitsu pointed out are notable as well. maybe there's a common source?

Mating and Breeding: Recent research indicates that blue whales reach sexual maturity between the ages of 6-10 years, or when males average about 74 feet (23 m) and females are about 79 feet (24 m). Calves are born at intervals of 2 to 3 years and gestation is about 12 months. Calves are 23 to 27 feet (7-8.2 m) long at birth and 3 tons (2,722 kg). Calves nurse for 7 to 8 months and are weaned when they reach 52 feet (16 m) in length. At that time they weigh about 23 tons (20,900 kg). During the nursing period, calves consume 100 gallons (379 liters) of the fat-rich mother's milk each day, gain 200 pounds a day, or 8 pounds an hour, and grow 1 and 1/2 inches in length a day.
range map
Distribution and Migration: Blue whales may be found in all oceans of the world. They migrate to tropical-to-temperate waters during winter months to mate and give birth to calves. They can feed throughout their range, in polar, temperate, or even tropical waters.
Natural History: Though they may be found singly or in small groups, it is more common to see blue whales in pairs. They are sometimes seen in larger groups and loosely defined concentrations of 50-60 have been observed. They are fast, strong swimmers, capable of reaching 30 mph (48.3 km/hr) when alarmed, but they usually cruise along at about 12 mph (19.3 km/hr).
Status: Because of their enormous size and speed, blue whales were safe from early whalers, who could not pursue them in open boats with hand harpoons. But in 1868 a Norwegian, Sven Foyn, revolutionized the whaling industry with the invention of the exploding harpoon gun and by using steam and diesel powered factory ships and catcher boats. He also perfected the technique of inflating dead whales with air so they wouldn't sink after being harpooned. The whaling industry began to focus on blue whales after 1900. A single 90-foot blue whale could yield up to 120 barrels of oil, and the blues were killed b

I'll use ego in terms like this (nobody actually uses Freudian psych anyways so this is the commonly used negatively connoted version): A person who does something for the inflation of their self worth by way of popular opinion rather than actual merit. "Good" and "clever" are entirely subjective, and most collections of people are mostly filled with idiots, or "people of differing opinions". That's just how it works. No matter where you go, the popular "good" and "clever" are neither unless you're average.

I refer to your latest discharge of plebeian verbiage; in which, you have proven, once again, that there is no such thing as unutterable nonsense. Try learning elementary grammar before attempting to inflict your next literary abomination on this message board.
Are you normally this dumb or are you just having a blonde moment? You couldn't get a clue during clue mating season in a field of clues if you smeared your body in musk and did the clue mating dance. Oh well, at least you only charge what your free advice is worth. I am reminded of something relevant that Benjamin Disraeli said: "He was distinguished for ignorance - for he had only one idea and that was wrong."
You are about as entertaining as a child's inflatable punching toy. You bop it, it springs back, you bop it again and you forget it ever existed. It slowly deflates in an unused corner, then one day you throw it away. I bet you thought it was just coincidence that your parents had the same surnames before they married? Maybe you wouldn't come across as such a jellyfish-sucking mental midget if you weren't so dense that light bends around you; if your weren't so fat that when God said "Let there be Light", he told you to move your fat *ss out of the way, or if you didn't have a face that could be used as an alternative to a stomach pump. No, come to think of it, you would.
You're a message board freak. I know it's hard to accept the truth, but the truth it is, and accept it, you must.

It may also be my imagination, but this voting bug may also be causing a rating inflation among sites now. There isn't usually an entire page of 4+ rated sites on the up and coming...

No because alot of times people who vote honestly and harshly get revenge downvoted and have poorly rated sites. I contribute alot to YTMND and my sites either are pure crap, poorly rated, or both. Vote weighing based on vote spread, number of votes made, time registered, and comments left would be the best way to reward active members and stop vote inflation by bad users.

Saturation would be an issue. How about a concept that YTMND hosts a competition monthly, bimonthly or trimonthly, where every site meeting a minimal view/vote count all get tallied up, they all get knocked down to a top 5 or 3 in the end, & after the final one is chosen, all the mods write a review for each site. I think that'd have a good balance of democracy, while still reducing inflation. LOL, inflation...

like FatherMcKenzie who only downvotes with one account. I used to think deleting is the best thing, but punishing them by taking away their voting rights is just as good. Plus if it turns out to be a sibling or roommate, then it's possible to reverse the punishment. Something you can't do by deleting the account. How many times did Wingerding get caught not only upvoting his own sites with 20 alts, but downvoting other sites in the U&C to keep his ratings inflated? Nothing happened to him so he kept

Anyone notice how lately you need a 4.3 to get on up and coming? What's with the voting inflation? All the sites probably look good with Worthwhile right next to it. You need to fix that, max. Make sure it only shows good sites, so people will realize these UaC sites are not groundbreakingly amazing. They must appear so to new users, when compared to screenshots, movie rips, and stolen GIFs in "Worthwhile YTMNDs" I know the section must be broken, and I know you must know it, max.

Is it just me, or are site ratings inflating to ridiculous proportions? The lowest rated site on up and coming is 4.35. That's crazy. Also, there is so little traffic that some sites are staying on up and coming for almost a week. We should do something about that. I want to know what my sites are really worth. Also it would be nice to see not so many people getting shafted because they don't have the connections to jump to up and coming to get attention from the rest of ytmnd. It's a harsh climate.

It inflates the user numbers, making the site look more appealing to advertisers. Imagine going to whomever sets the ads up and saying "I've got 25 regular users" instead of "I've got x accounts that log in daily"
