if you actually read (or knew how to) the money is for a content server, not the forums server. read past news for the specs. the forum server isnt anywhere near as powerful.

Ebaumsworld is doing exactly what someone does when they download pirated music, movies, or games. The only difference being, these companies are huge, have lots of money, and expensive laywers. The origonal content creators do not have these resources.
What is needed is some sort of internet content creators alliance. We have the same rights as these big corporations do, we simply do not have the money or manpower. But if there was to be some sort of alliance among everyone releasing origonal content to the internet, we may have some legal power.

I agree with Blackeye. There will be some serious repercussions not too far down the road, although our warriors did pull off a good job. I wouldn't start celebrating too soon. But this little incident does go to show how much of a powerful tool the internet can be. It's funny that YTMND isn't the only anti-ebaum site. SomethingAwful.com doesn't like ebaumsworld either. So in a way... WATMND (We're all the man now, dog). Just brace yourselves for the eventual backlash. Hail Max.

You don't get it Max and neither does Bauman or many people engaging in the "war." The fact is, that this was a matter of proving a point. Bauman thought he could just take a site, pass it off as his own, and and be fine with it. The original maker spent a lot more time creating it than Bauman did stealing it, and nothing is more frustrating than that. When people care enough about something like that to get numerous communities to band together and try and take down the site that did that, it just shows the power of what you've done and that YTMND isn't something to be trampled on. You should be proud of it, max.

What do you mean by "paid" account? Does this mean someone who has donated to the site? Or is that a separate thing? Also, if we (the users) have ideas for the site/products or complaints against other users/mods, how accessible and willing to help will the Mod/Admin staff be? Also, how much power will they have in general? What are the qualifications for the Mod/Admin staff? Aside from that I'm VERY glad you're addressing the Firefox issue. The other features you listed have definitely piqued my interest (especially PMs). BTW I don't expect a lengthy reply, mostly I'm just getting thoughts out.

a lot of these ideas are good, max. they really are. there's just a lot of flaws to them that users can exploit. for example, any group of terrorizing downvoters could easily get a site deleted by anchoring it below 2.5. with that feature in place, you're giving more power to the downvoters, at least over the "free users." i'm also not too crazy about the moderation idea. while it does sound like something useful to filter out the bad sites early on, it makes creating a new site a bit of a hassle, and the feature could also be badly abused by downvoters.

also I worry that a lot of downvoters will have even more power against people who are just starting out YTMND..they can virtually destory everything they make, thus discouraging new members and making ytmnd stagnant..

just give no power to the people that vote 1 all the time. 1s have a crippling effect on ytmnds. Where as a ytmnd that has had many 5s will eventually even out to a more true number once more people see it and can give it their honest vote.

Alot of your ideas sound good, but the auto-del takes this site out of the hands of its users. Humour is too subjective to be trusted in the hands of a select few. I understand the need for moderators but they shouldnt be all powerful, or their word final. I dunno, its really tricky, cause of the volume of new sites. But change is good, all power to you.

vote-weighting might not work for people who only logon to vote when something really snazzy comes along...then again, I suppose their votes /should/ have less power o_o so I guess vote-weighting is a good idea

Yeah. The numbers not only discourage quality, but reward worse stuff. Sitsu DOES have better sites than Runaway. And I have better sites than my highest rated ones. (Some of my best aren't even 2 stars.) To look at it another way, look at the scores of sites in the top 5. It used to be pushing over the 4 mark was enough to get there. Now you have to have like a 4.5 I saw a guy with a 4.49 get pushed off the top 5. That's not a reflection of higher-achieving sites. It's a reflection of just how powerful a wave of idiots can be. Weighted voting can be nice, but you'd have to give people who vote a variety a HUGE extra weight in order to offset the people who think a 5 isn't a reward, but a common courtesy - an entitlement. See the sites of people complaining about "downvoters." Some mention "now I think I'm a good site maker and I upvote everybody," like that was some kind of positive. Like never telling someone that they suck is some kind of community service. Like a 5-star is a natural right from birth.

I like the idea of a cutoff - if, after say, a week, a site has not obtained a score above 2, views above 100, or votes above 10... blam!
I'm against Flash. This site is good for the simple text/image/sound engine. Newgrounds is for Flash. If you want to preload stuff so it syncs, write some javascript precache stuff. Avoid Flash.
Paid accounts sound really good.
I'm not so keen on this moderation idea, I prefer the current NWS/WS for all method with a cutoff method.
Weighted voting? All for it. Allows users to keep upvoting and downvoting, but at a cost to their vote power.
We don't want silliness like Newground's "levels" though. Site # ! template should only be adustible for paid users.
