There are still quality sites being made all the time. The problem is, with the 300 vote cap on the U&C, they mosty dissappear from the front page before everyone has a chance to see them. The only way they have any staying power is if they are sponsored or have an extremely high rating and make the Top Rated box. Then you have the same site making 2 or even 3 different lists on the same page. There is no reason for that redudancy. The Top Sponsored Site ends up making Top Viewed and as well as

the most Voted list, regardless of the quality of the ytmnd. So basically we have this expanded layout yet half the sites are either repeats, broken sites on the Worthwhile list, or sites everyone has seen (HOF and Mod favs). It just seems to me that there is a better way. Of course, the site is also in desperate need of updating, as we all know that the search engine doesn't include sites made in the last month.

"Is Anna Nicole Smith still dead?" averaging a 4.75 at this writing after hundreds of votes is a good example of how sad the community has become. F*ck these "timely" YTMNDs. We need a purge after every fringe-or-better celebrity dies, I'm sure all the f*cking Steve Irwin sites are all there, months after anyone stopped giving a sh*t. If the same people who said "OMG HAHA THAT'S SO WITTY AND TOPICAL! 5!!" were to vote on them again a month after the fact, they'd probably give it a f*cking 1.

A lot of people seem to be ignoring the fact that this is about the users themselves. Face it there is a huge split between most users. Upvoters, downvoters, fad lovers, fad haters and the few that vote fairly. Some users think "f*ggy short films" aren't funny for all the wrong reasons, others won't vote fairly on a "classic" style site because it didn't require 2 hours worth of editing. And that can hold back a user from exploring one of several different avenues. What a f*cking pickle.

I'm not sure about these pie charts. I like my pie charts to have all sorts of different colors not just shades of gay. Have fun in New Orleans. I just want to thank you for taking one step closer to turning this site into even more of an unfunny circle jerk. There is no need for highlighting peoples names. All this is going to accomplish is preventing new users coming to your site with fresh material. While the regs and people that devote their lives to this site have fun regurgitating inside jokes and sites made up about other users. Just scratch this whole featured users thing. It would be better in the long run.

Ok, How about a list of recently created sites is all their is. People sign in and view these. if the site sucks f*cking *ss and gets bombed then the files and the site will be deleted. The sites that people vote high, comment on, or view the most get to stay and move on to the next section. Like a viewed/Commented/Rating section. Then from there they can be voted out of these sections. When people are tired of them but could still be favorited for later. Also have a cycling section of sites above 4 and

Yea not to mention there are still alot of sites on the recently created that are worth 1'ing it. One reason I avoid watching recently created ytmnds is because it creates a trend of 1s and then I wont realize there is some sort of program on ytmnd.com that reads me 1'ing all these sites and registering me as a downvoter. also I do agree with one post, MurdarMachene does rule at random stuff.

i like the google way... take all the humans out of the equation. or you could lean to the wikipedia way... only humans. but i dont really like that because there is always going to be someone with power that can be an *ss (im still banned from the ytmndwiki) . i think we should keep our focus on thinking of ways to get the computer to do the work for us. BUT for the hall of fame i think that needs a purely human touch. i think it would be interesting the have a supreme court type deal that deliberates it.

Please keep doing the work you do and realize we do appreciate it. I do have ONE idea...

There is currently a glitch where a site flagged as NSFW by anyone will automatically become SFW if edited by the site creator in any way. This has been exploited numerous times to undo moderation decisions, although it should be easy to fix (all moderation is logged.) A question raised from this is how one can change a site from NSFW to SFW with the appropriate permissions, should they wish to repent (perhaps just telling them to recreate the site will suffice, but popular sites may be a different story.)

I'm quite tired of talking and reading about the mod systems. Most of it's the same thing repeated. All I know is this, you can't and shouldn't moderate how people vote. If someone only wants to downvote, then that's fine. If someone only wants to upvote, then fine. There is nothing wrong if people only like noise sites, poorly developed sites, or sites that are nothing but regurgitated fads. Trying to moderate the quality of content isn't possible either.

There is a difference. The noises that make up Jitz, Khan and Marv are inherently funny, and McKenzie just makes them even funnier in his different sites. When 5 out of the 10 U&C sites were dmaz's Hook sites, it was just obvious that dmaz watched Hook and thought 'this would be funny to stick pokemon/mario/etc in here and get fives'. dmaz is a good user, but I hated the Hook sites. It was just so forced and not really funny at all.

That option was actually intentionally crippled and never removed. It was neat statistic, but took too much server power to do on a constant basis. There is a lot of small stuff like that all over the site, and rather than fix them all on the live site I'm doing it in the refactoring so I don't have to manage two completely different code bases.

I did like the feature user idea but the way it is sucks. As far as I can tell there is no algorythm anymore. It's just a couple of people picking users whose sites they like. The featured user "Then" has like 2 sites with any significant views. I have over 20. If I have no idea what I'm working toward, then why try at all?

Or...or take voting power away from people who cast votes that Umfuld doesn't approve of. After all, he is the King of YTMND...the police officer who gives people tickets for jaywalking...the highway patrolman who pulls people over for going 76 on a 75 mph road...the cop that follows people with DUI histories and pulls them over for simple things like not signaling when turning into their own driveway at night when there is no other traffic around.

This update isn't any less "ytmnd" than it was on April 31st. I still have the old server/codebase/db backups, and if I really wanted to, could set up a copy of the site on April 31st. The same problems would still exist.

I think the majority of the changes to the site template are not as sacrilege as many people claim. It's one of the most complicated pieces of the site and trying to maintain random.ytmnd.com, random.ytmnd.com/random, preview, as well as preferences which change the layout, all while rolling out new features and making sure each one doesn't break is a massive headache.

Having YTMNDs load for 3 seconds doesn't take away from the experience in my view, even if your YTMND doesn't need synchronization. I think seeing a loading bar briefly is ultimately a better user experience than say, showing a "plugin needed" message when you don't have quicktime.

People have suggested making recently created the entire front page and I think it's too short sighted. It just doesn't have enough draw. There is a limit to the number of people who come here wanting to actually find a "diamond in the rough" where as it's much more likely they'll want to have their good content picked out for them (a la up and coming).

I think the biggest problem with the site isn't the front page; the front page is just a compilation trying to describe recent events on YTMND. I think the problem is the lack of any helpful way to browse YTMND when you want to go *beyond* the front page. In 2006 there was /list/, which was quite literally, a list of every site ever made, with sortable columns. This quickly became a scalability issue and was replaced with a much better search and /browse/ (which is now /sites/). These features just don't provide an understanding of the breadth of YTMND and its history.

The two most trafficked pages are the front

Have it be known that the 40 or so comments made on here tonight stem from a site created by eightbitprodigy. It was a good site. It was well-made and it had a few harmless jokes thrown in it. It had a 4.32 rating until it was hammered by all the gr33nscr33n alts I mentioned. I don't know why he did it. It's not like he was countering anything, since eightbitprodigy, to my knowledge, has never used alts in any way. I honestly don't know how much Umfuld contributed to it, but there is a confirmed Nothingman vote within the site's comments. Here's the site where you will find blatant evidence of cheating with alts in the comments:

[site maxdestroysytmnd:site]

Going back a couple weeks, here's another comment page with massive amounts of cheating:

http://ytmnd.com/sites/953046/profile

Umfuld is simply spewing out his hate for me, calling for a ban or a deletion. And his excuse is because I'm not voting the way he thinks I should on specific sites. He can call it trolling if he wants, but there is such a thing as freedom, so he doesn't really have a case. And he complains when I bring his name up...well, you've banned him from commenting once before, so you probably know that he does this type of thing all the time too - bringing up people he hates in conversations. Me, lacrossestar83, DarthWang, wisdumcube (2008-2009 era), etc.

Want to fix YTMND? Get rid of the alts, get a new contest started, and rejuvenate your razor with your Razor Gator.
