seems fake. news posts havent ever really been a great source of 'truth'. either way, someone in this situation is/was starved for attention

At first i thought this was real because i didnt think max would ever do something this low, but the hoax evidence is pretty compelling. Gees, a new low for YTMND.

Damn, I was hoping he really did kill himself using someone else's suicide letter. Your friends and family find out you off'ed yourself then find a note thinking they'll at least get an explanation then find out the letter has nothing to do with them. Best suicide ever. Alas, it wasn't real, truth isn't always stranger than fiction :( Now I'm bored and going to kill myself.

Hey Max, Great start. One thing you may want to think about is adding an embedding function to individual YTMND's. That way people can share them throughout the web. You may also want to consider creating a "share this" button that carries with the media, so that people who see the individual YTMND's can share them without ever having to visit site. Also, your full screen icon bleeds into the background, making it hard to "read".

Algorithms aren't very good judges of who makes good content. While I doubt it will ever completely filter out terrible users, I think it could improve a lot, but I'm the only one working on it, so like everything else it is getting a lot less TLC than it needs.

But max, you could come up with the most brilliant algorithm ever conceived by man, it's still futile of you to try to come up with a system that tries to predict where good content is going to come from in the future. I just think you'd be better off implementing a system that would allow users to go and find good content for you. In addition to the voting system of course, which has its inherent flaws.

I only ever communicate with users via comments/news posts, for most of the day to day I discuss stuff in the ytmnd dev irc chat, I would be very pleased if more people idled in there and popped in to partake in discussions. Featured users was something I made in an evening after talking with ROY4L briefly.

I have had no luck with dogs. I would have to say the only dog I ever owned that I had any enjoyment out of was my first dog. It's also the only dog I ever abused. I'll tell you one thing, Ex-Lax sure works great on a dog. (It was my friends idea...) A few years back, someone my wife knew was giving away a dog. We went to this person's home to meet the dog. It was a lovely dog named Rez. The woman stated that it was fully trained and loved to be outside.

It would be very embarrassing having this dog around the house when company was over. This was one horny dog. This dog would hump the hall rug until he was satisfied. He would hump my friend's leg. He would hump the cat. That was the first time I ever heard a cat say "yeow!" instead of "meow!". We finally gave the cute, adorable floppy eared dog back to his owner after only three days of torment. As they pulled out of the driveway with him, I could see that damn dog gazing out the back window. I gave him the finger. He looked at me in disgust and I just smirked.

various incarnations of ffmpeg which did surprisingly bad, i cant remember what else, this is a culmination of a few years of work on-and-off, the best (and current) encoder i've found seems to be a piece of proprietary software called turbine by a company called "blue pacific software". it hasnt been updated for a few years and they've made it clear they dont plan to update it ever again.

max, you ever think about making the votes out of 10 stars instead of 5? in 2005, highest rated sites were roughly 4.40. in 2006 they were 4.50, in 2007 they were 4.60, in 2008 they were 4.70-4.76ish. see a pattern? in about another year or 2 sites will have like a 5.00 star rating (if this site even exists) so this way if it was out of 10 stars, users can vote 1-10 and maybe that will fix the problem with all the overrated sites and tone them down a bit.
