what the ytmnd hints at would be awesome, and very convenient. And finally, please, please, dont give mods far too much power. A powerful mod base will scare away much of the community. I dont visit newgrounds as frequently for this reason [mainly]. I mean comeon, getting my profile muted for saying "Blam this sh*t!", is utter bs. You turn the site into an oligarchy, which will require your watchful eye much more. Sure allow mods to take action, but dont hand it over like most sites do. Thanks.

I think a good idea would be an option to set a field in a site to list another site as an "inspiration." As most sites and based around something else, being able to track upwards through them for the chain of humor without depending on the image/audio source being filled in linking the other site would be nice. The lists seem like another way of allowing each person to do this manually for their own use. The lists look good too.

That's an interesting idea. some flexible system that limits other users based on the community's reaction to their behavior. The problem in designing the technical side of a system like that is making it hard/impossible to "game". A self-moderating system like that would be great, if it weren't constantly abused.

Here's how I think the HoF voting system should go. Except I have to post it in parts since the box won't let me do a wall of text-
-Once you first put in the new HoF system, everyone gets X votes to use. The number each person gets is based on how long they've been around, for example you said one vote for every three months.

-Users should have to earn more votes. When I say earn I mean they should only get additional votes if they've "behaved" themselves. For instance, a user should get a vote at the end of every month if they haven't made any infractions based on the moderation rules (which you haven't made). Are you a troll? Annoying spammer? Part of your punishment could be for you to lose your monthly vote.

You could do the limbo thing, but have a hall of fame ceremony one month out of the year. Then when that month rolls around the sites in limbo are put on a poll list. Then say a user gets so many votes based on how long they have been registered with the site. Say, 1 vote for every 6 months past. Then when the poll is done, the sites with the greater majority of the % of votes gets inducted into the HOF.

I don't know about a maximum. What if there was someone that had absolutely no life and spent all of their time on YTMND. If I happened to be that person, which I'm not, I would be pissed if I ran out of votes for the day. Sometimes I actually refresh random.ytmnd.com over and over for an hour just to put more votes out there. But this idea could be a good one if it was based on votes per minute. If someone made 20 votes in one minute, obviously they were just blind upvoting or downvoting a site.

I think people invest too much emotion into this site. If everyone voted based on the site rather than the creator, we would see a slight change in things. For instance, lots of people associate mattdh12 with ear rape, and don't watch his site but rather vote 1 as soon as the preloader begins and that's bullsh*t because most of what matt makes is hilarious.

Personally, I feel that ytmnd is a perfect mix of both. It isnt a porn romp through piles of crap like the second, but it isnt a stunning, yet quick to bore flickr tour. Its a mix of both, a mix through which you can find whichever based on your mood.

If you're going to give users a general ability to vote for certain YTMNDs to enter the Hall of Fame, expect some overrated sites as well as deserving and creative ones to make it on there at some point. Still, it should be an improvement. Time-related prerequisites seem to be the best approach. I imagine rewarding users based on success rather than experience e.g. Pink/Featured would spark cries of elitism.

This is exactly what I mean! How is my voting biased? I vote based on what I think is funny. How do I comment spam? Because I say "1" or "5"? How are my sites boring? That's just your opinion, tons of people love them.

I think you need to focus on the more static rules. The original todo list was just a general list of behaviors, some of which will never become punishable. If you know my style (and you should by now) you should know it's unlikely I'm ever going to endorse deleting split voters, people who leave dumb comments and other general option-based punishments. There are much bigger problems that deserve a lot more attention, so don't get your panties in a bunch, and comment on what you think actually matters.

I think it is safe to say that, if things keep going the way they are now, there will never be another site that gets past 3,000 votes. It seems that every month the user base goes down even more and more. I see sites that take days to get off up and coming compared to a year ago when a single site can garner up to 500 votes after a single day of creation even with an up and coming limit of 300 votes. But that should be the least of our concerns, let alone one of them.

Max, imposing rules based on morality will only harm the fabric of the YTMND community.
Giving people the choice not to view offensive material is one thing, telling people what isn't humor or how to place their votes is another.

I'm basing this idea on the fact that the reason some of those poor rated sites are listed is because they aren't getting kicked off the U&C (mainly) or recently created fast enough and therefore hanging around getting views during that first 30 minutes to stay on the list. I figure if the wait is anywhere from two to four hours (when there aren't many people here anyway) I might help reduce the amount of garbage sites that have been making the list lately.

http://www.ytmnd.com/sites/profile/811731. Lets see. This person shows up out of the blue to defend you. He uses the same gay attacks in arguing as you (something you always do when you're trying to deflect attention away from the issue). Has a very similar mannerisms in commenting. Almost every single five star votes are based on your and your alts sites. The fact you keep lying about everything (okay that really isn't proof, but given your past history you can see why no one can ever believe you).

I've never complained about ads and I refuse to disable them on YTMND but please do something about the Napoleon Dynamite one. That movie's popularity peaked over 3 years ago. I'm tired of seeing an advertisement for a game based on a movie that was relevant 4 years ago. Make it go away.

That option was actually intentionally crippled and never removed. It was neat statistic, but took too much server power to do on a constant basis. There is a lot of small stuff like that all over the site, and rather than fix them all on the live site I'm doing it in the refactoring so I don't have to manage two completely different code bases.

What I meant by the "will be nice" comment was that in the future users who don't like the amount of outside attention a site gets will have the ability to make their voice heard. I think the likelihood of being completely supported by user-based ads is slim, but I think a good percentage of site-ads could be user-driven, and it ultimately will be a better site for all in the long run.

I am an avid fan of YTMND. I come to this site every day and every night before I go to sleep. I think it is one of the best websites on the internet. I come here to laugh and I come here to sometimes be awed by a great piece of work. You could say I am a fan, and you all are the team. I rate sites based on how I truly feel about them. I work a lot, and YTMND is a good place for me. I would be truly saddened if this plan was put into action. It reeks of elitism, I don't understand.

A flash based site could really change things in other parts of the site, such as the forums
Embedded YTMNDs into the forum? I would like to see that.

It seems that it would be really hard to ask of this community for extensive coding as I imagine that the average person here has more experience in photoshop, video/audio editing. I feel like this site allows much more people to provide content (much of it good) with relative ease and with relative inexperience with software/programming. It seemed like Newgrounds could pull full-time staff from its portal user base.

It seems to me that a simple solution would be to turn YMTD into a flash portal. Newgrounds has been doing this for over a decade. I completely understand that part of what makes YTMND stand out is that its based on making sites-not movies. But The content is more a part of it than anything, which seems to be long-running insider jokes and recycled content. So how the content is delivered is less important. The content is the drawing factor.

What you are describing is a good example of how groups would be effectively used. There is a subset of the user base which loves "moon man" sites, and a (much larger I think) subset which despises them. The question is how do we show content to the general public that they will most likely enjoy, while still offering users enough customization to see what they want if it differs.

Yeah, I remember 300 votes, and really the problem is still that there are not enough people. Maybe when the new flash-based site system is released, and/or when the new layout is released it would attract some more people! Too bad hoping for a change like that anytime soon is just wishful thinking

Alright max, here's your new internet strategy: 1. Finish flash-based site system to make us happy. 2. Ask us to donate so you can have enough money to sell T-Shirts. 3. Sell T-Shirts and perhaps other merchandise. 4. Get rich. 5. Start YTMND contests and offer cash prizes. 6. More people are encouraged to join and make their own YTMNDs. 7. More people donate and buy YTMND merchandise. 8. Repeat step 4.
