obvious truths:
Belief in anything without substantial evidence can be dangerous
Both Christians and Muslims have been dangerous in the past, and still are
Muslims are decidedly more dangerous than Christians right now
The best tools to fight ignorance are science and secularism
Theocratizing America is a horrible, blatantly hypocritical idea
Sep of C&S is fundamental to the American experiment
some arab nations could benefit from secularism, but not by force.
You purposely missed my point. I've seen you post before...you're smarter than that. Woodrow Wilson, a well-loved American president, helped pen Birth of Nation based along the same logic as the sermon I posted there. History is complicated, people do awful things, and violence is always used for intimidation. I don't condone the acts you mention. I'm just pointing out how conveniently everyone forgets or ignores acts of violence that force them to question their own heroes, their own government, etc.
It has been well documented that JFK was not "for civil rights" nearly to the degree so many like to think. Ask James Meredith how helpful Kennedy was. Yes, he sent the U.S. Marshals to Oxford, but not before a whole hell of a lot of backpedaling and hoping the whole thing would go away. Ever see footage of the phone calls between JFK and Gov. Barnett? Less about civil rights and more about fed vs. state, plus some general all-around dick measuring. Liberals don't get a clean dance card either.
sorry gr33n, I just think a tit for tat remark like that link is a bit out of the scope of the argument. One involves people, a large quantity of them, who are breaking several international laws in the name of radical religious fundamentalism. the other (your link) is a group lobbying (assumed) peacefully for something that is currently illegal and morally as wrong as the previously mentioned radical fundamentalists. Granted, they are both religious fundamentalists, but one's protests
, though disgraceful, are still very much legal, encouraged, and constitutional (their act of protesting). The other's involves taking (presumably) innocent lives, threats, and overall not-polite acts to further their goals, not moving within any legal system whatsoever. I feel your link was merely a distraction from the point, not a way of addressing it. Additionally, bringing up Woodrow Wilson, JFK, or any other president, is irrelevant. More superfluous, drawn-out arguments as events warrant. (dblpostsry
