Hey, that's back before he was a blind-downvoting, 1'ing-you-because-you-didn't-vote-on-another-site-the-way-he-wanted-you-to, changing-his-vote-because-you-did-something-he-didn't-like, douchebag.

This is the cancer that's killing ytmnd. The site was clever, but the fact that someone spent their own money to sponsor the site. This site. An inside joke about a user who, god forbid, is critical of people's work. Sites like this, inside jokes, are embraced... while genuinely funny ytmnds that ANYONE can appreciate (HTPAT) get locked down because they bring in too much traffic.

I suppose the reasons for closing HTPAT were legitimate, but I notice that any attempts to gain viewerships for a ytmnd off-site are frowned upon because a small group of egomaniacs seem to think its the creator's way of "cheating" to get on top viewed.

Praising HTPAT...I'd call trolling, if that word had any meaning left.

Max himself toyed with the idea of allowing people to sponsor self-made 'ads' on other user's sites in hopes of profiting from 'site fights' very much like this. As far as sponsorships go I don't think it's right to complain about which site. That's the point; sponsor so a site that normally wouldn't be seen gets exposure. What's regrettable is now there are only trolls left and they of course don't need to sponsor their sites anymore. Users who spend hours making original content with a broad appeal are now on the outside looking in.

And to be fair, whether he knew it or not, this is the environment Max cultivated. Not once was someone like lacrossestar deleted for reposting someone else's YTMND dozens upon dozens of times, nor were the people, like Ochobonobo, who would up vote it and ruin the place for everyone else.

I'm sure a place like reddit those people are dealt with. Here there is no moderation against such immaturity and if anything it seems they are encouraged by the owner.

Umfuld isn't critical of other people's "work". He's critical of their behavior.

What the hell ever. And HTPAT is crap, but people didn't hate it because it was crap, they hated it because it got passed around the internet, got on top viewed, and kept their shitty inside jokes off of top-viewed. The only way for this site to stop growing smaller is to bring in new blood, and produce sites that any idiot browsing the internet can appreciate.
