You made me youtube that song and wow, I had no idea Joy Division was that popular. I'm not complaining but... Why? What makes them more compelling than all the other post-punk (or pre-post-punk{?} [fuck genres]) bands that linger in obscurity? I know there was a movie about them and a bunch of bands who rip them off but what caused the interest in those things to begin with?

Was it because the guy killed himself? Is that all you need to become more widely recognized? D Boon died in a car crash and people on youtube still confuse his band for the right-wing extremist group, "The Minutemen." Is it because youtube is full of 13-year olds and they respond better toward pussies who commit suicide than men who died brutal, honest deaths?

Again, I'm happy that at least one great band from that hodgepodge of punk/post-punk bands is being rediscovered, but it's like, why not all of them though? [spoil]damnit[/spoil]
