I want the 7 minutes of my life back! By the way, the whole section on Voltaire is a lie. He didn't die the way you dipicted it. What you have is christian propoganda. Voltaire died, remained a skeptic to the bitter end. He remained silent as he passed away. And since many of the other stories had unknown "infidels", then I must believe the rest of these were lies as well. Anyone who comes to your profile and downvotes your site because you decide to add a religious slant is just scared of religion. I played arena football with a hardcore christian born again type guy who would try and "save" us all. I'm also not a very good catholic myself, but I'm smart and confident enough to sit and listen without feeling uncomfortable or offended. It's the fear and stupidity of the "whetstone downvoters" that bothers me.

This does nothing to prove God's existance or whatever. People from centuries ago lived in a world where the church controlled how people lived, and someone who was in such excruciating agony would of course make reference to what the church tried to brainwash him with. A dying man in a christian-ruled time period will of course recant, because that is what he was forced to believe in during his lifetime. Cut this sh*t about trying to force us all to take in your beliefs. Not all of us are so naive.

If using YTMND to make power-point presentations of accounts of the "final days" of atheists cut and past from other sites is how you want to spend your time, then more power to you. Unfortunately, you were obviously aware of the criticism and/or apathy you were going to receive for the LENGTH of this piece...so I can only beg to ask the question WHY BOTHER using YTMND .... why not just make a nicely designed BLOG with all of this compiled information? -4 for lack of thought in presentation style.
...the TOTAL amount of information compiled in this could easily be read in under 2 minutes if presented in a single page...yet we're forced to sit through 7 minutes of "slides". I sincerely think that this slide style presentation style would have worked better/well with narration, and even AS an atheist, I would have been willing to score it higher based on the potentially more effective aesthetics.

The P&T Bullsh*t episode about the Bible was a terrible attempt to criticize religion. The entire episode was pretty much, "The stories in the Bible, at face value, are completely absurd. None of those things could ever happen. Now, we're going to blatantly ignore any and all explanations of the Bible (i.e. historical context, religious meaning, etc.), because the best way to win an argument is to completely ignore the opposing view. Right?" Seriously, it was the worst episode of the whole series.

Condemning those who do not have Christ in their hearts as indifdels makes you no better then terrorists. Do not give Christians a bad name by condemning others. Show them love, Jesus loves everyone. Regardless of the actual definition of "infidel," its conotation is much darker then just one who does not believe. Do not disguise evil intent by calling it ignorance on our part.
Your last point about witness testimony isn't exactly solid, considering witness testimony isn't exactly solid, and that's admitted by pretty much anyone you talk to in the legal system (and a fact in the world of psychology).
As to your examples, what of people who live lives as devout Muslims and describe great peace as they die? Or as devout Buddhists? Or devout Taoists? There are just as many examples of that as there are of hellfire.

Look, man...I don't doubt your good intentions or the importance of what you're trying to do here, but maybe bringing people to Christ by treating them as Christ would is better than shaking a picture of hell at them? Why would Christ honor a salvation brought about because you were scared of hell? Wrong way, man. Wrong.

Atheism and agnosticism are the fastest growing religions (or more accuarately, lack of religion) in the world, and already over one billion people are atheist or agnostic. People are just getting smarter and less vulnerable to falling for religous crap.
While I myself do not believe in a god, I often wonder what the point of these kinds of propaganda are. If one is truly Christian, should they not believe out of love and a desire to improve themselves and their world, rather than out of fear of being sent to hell for all of eternity? I believe that defeats the purpose. And besides, if this "god" is all loving, why would it send a soul to hell for infinite torture when it has committed finite sins? Yeah, forgiveness. Christian hypocrisy is staggering.
The essential flaw in this YTMND is that this isn't a report on the afterlife by people who have seen it; anyone who can talk is demonstratably alive. Further, to convince anyone with a scientific background, you must repeat the results under different circumstances. If people from other cultures and religions report the same experiences, (and were dead - let's not forget that part) then you would have a case, but retelling stories from one book is insufficient.
Me: christian = yes, catholic = no, mormon = yes. I'm sorry, but not everyone who believes in God also believes that anyone unfortunate enough to be living somewhere outside of your church's "benevolent" grasp is condemned to a life of rotting hell and furious torment of the soul in a pit of agonizing dispair for the remainder of time and beyond. I guess that's what's never made sense to me about "mainstream" christianity: "If you sin once and don't get your last rites, you go to hell."

the thing about religious arguments is that they tend to refuse address and discuss possible contradictions to what one is trying to say. to avoid a mistake in logical reasoning like that is pretty much the status quo for college essays. hundreds of testimonies doesn't deny the possibility that all the billions of non-Christians who have died did so peacefully. if there is one case that can deny a premise, one is forced to reconsider the grounds for his argument. and i can testify for a few cases alone.
Your logic here is critically flawed in presenting your argument. First off, you're relying solely on anecdotal evidence, from ONE source, this SB Shaw bloke. I've never heard of him, and neither has Wikipedia, but we can infer from the title of his work "Saved and Unsaved" that he is already biased in his writing. I don't by it just as I wouldn't give any credence to a work discussing abortion that was titled "Both Pro-Life and Anti-Life Viewpoints". There is no objectivity here.
Secondly: Even if we were to presume that SB shaws accounts are accurate (Which would be preposterous, but let's assume), we still have to call into question these supposed deathbed accounts. First of all, this argument is based on the premise that a dying human being can be reasonably called upon to give a decent account of his experiences. That however, is a ridiculous notion. A dying man is not in his right mind, and indeed, his mind is physically shutting down along with the rest of his body.
Now, you love to talk causality, so let's look at that as well. ASSUMING that Shaw's account can be trusted, and ASSUMING that these deathbed accounts are accurate portrayals of a death experience, what can we assume? Very little. The Judeo-Christian account of Sheol, as written in the Bible is old. But not as old as Humanity itself. What came first, the chicken or the egg? Did the Bible accurately depict the afterlife, OR, did the Bible reflect commonly told anecdotes of death? Repackaged folk tales?
In all honesty, it makes more sense to me to presume (given the past two assumptions) that human death is accompanied by a psychological influx of fear, or perhaps a burning sensation/hallucinations. Occam's razor: It is more simple to believe that people freak out when their neurons are all misfiring than to believe that they are being dragged into a blood-slick portal to an alternate dimension of ultimate suffering by cackling horned demons. Plus, the imagery here is all very strictly judeo-christian...
Which brings up the question: What do good western christians see when they die? What about non western believers? Buddhists? Or, howabout non-western non-believers? Backslidden fearful buddhists? We don't know, because Shaw is so busy trying to scare us into his dogma that he doesn't bother providing any of these things. Most likely because they don't fit his clearly biased agenda. Ultimately, I'm giving this site a 1 because the presentation is lacking, (text and creepy music, ohsno) and flawed logic.

You know, I enjoyed this, it made me think.
I used to call myself a Christian but I don't anymore, at best I fall into the catagory of an agnostic, things like this interest me greatly. There are lots of reasons to support the idea of an afterlife but just as many counters as such is the nature of man I guess, everything is a big fight. But thank you for making this and while I don't really agree with everything it's very well made and got the gears turning and I think thats what you were going for, eh?
Downvoted because I disagree with your condescending nature as well as your willing ignorance. You elect to respond to only semantic arguments against your points, while the ones that actually counter your argument go unchallenged. Perhaps this comes from a pre-conceived notion that you are already inferior by nature, a common theme in Christianity. It's a shame that your religion has trapped you in a way that you can only see from one perspective, and choose to judge people by it.

I do have Christian beliefs. And I refuse to vote cause I want to stay neutral. I do disagree with some of the YTMNDs you are making which seems that you are trying to force religious views on others. But on the other hand......THis YTMND make me smile. So many people seem to be assuming that any atheist who gives this a 1 and opposes the material hates Christians. Some do, but most of us are more tolerant than that and are simply offended by the intolerance displayed by Whetstone here. There are accepting atheists just as there are accepting Christians, Muslims, and people of any religion or non-religion.
You obviously put a lot of work into this, and from a graphic point of view, it really worked. That said, what worked about it was that it was ridiculous shock value, and was the worst kind of argument for something like this: devoid of any real persuasion, and rooted entirely in empty-minded scare tactics that immediately alienate anyone that doesn't already agree with you. Entirely offensive, and an excellent exemplary argument for the other side.
How many people turn to Christ for the prospect of peace after life? It is only assumption, but I believe turning to religion for fear of hell is the most common reason of become a Christian.Jesus mentioned we may all be saved if we so wish it, so why must these people be neglected from other Christians? It is a scary thought that some Christians would simply turn their backs on their fellow human kind, even when giving these people a chance at peace in their death would take a minute to 'save'.

hmm...as a a christian, we are taught to believe that even until the very hour of death we can pray for forgiveness and recieve it. I can't tell if you have some kind of weird vendetta agianst pain blocking drugs. Does this apply to everyone? I hope not, because ive seen the good it can do. People i know personally would have been in tremendous pain without these drugs. And infidels? They are people as well, even if they dont believe axactly what you do. Heresay attempting to be elevated into an argument from authority, which so many "infidels" buy. I doubt most any of these are true. Likely some are...emphasis on the some. In his intro he admits "We have advertised in various religious papers, and have in this way received many experiences." and he goes on to give other 'sources'. What he does not say is that he was at even one of these dead-bed moments. The book is entirely what he heard they heard. He is not at their side taking notes.
Further the second link, is friggen wrong. It just mentions that's where Voltaire was from. The Voltaire site http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/voltaire in fact debunks the turning his home into a bible factory quote (the point of which was?). I'm not even gonna give it a score. I'm kind of appalled by the way Whetstone presents the idea of the qualifications for Hell. Maybe this is because I'm a Mormon, and so my beliefs on the subject are different (I believe that truly just God does NOT send someone who lived a good life to Hell because he didn't accept Christianity). But, meh. We're all stuck on this infinitesimal speck of dust (in the cosmic sense) with six billion of each other...better get used to it.
