Dr. L337's ytmnds work for the same reason why MST3000, the old school batman show, Space Ghost, and other similar things work; they are so awful, in bad taste, and absurd that they work comically. This is a comedy aesthetic called camp. Dr. L337 is an example of ironic camp; the idea of someone who supposedly gets laid all the time that produces hundred of sh*tty ytmnd's is powerfully absurd. The fact that this site has so many views, donations, and comments only adds to the affect.
