A 1990s Mad Magazine article noted that people feel nostalgia for more and more recent periods of time. In the 80s, people had nostalgia for the 50s; in the 90s, it could be as recent as the 80s. It was predicted that early in the 21st century, people would feel nostalgia for the exact present moment. YTMND fulfilled this prophecy. THEN.. in 2006, the hype leading up to the release of Snakes on a Plane induced people to feel nostalgia for an event WHICH HAD NOT YET OCCURED!!!
Great picture, great music, horrible point to try to advance.
There is no specific time that is "the future". The future is a concept referring to a time that is yet to come. "This is the future" implies an end to history, but things will always change. There is no "end of history". Now, you could argue that we've reached the height of what technology can do - I'm about 75% sure that this isn't the case - but an end to history? For example, considder our oil supply.
A man walks down the street, it's a street in a strange world. Maybe it's the Third World. Maybe it's his first time around. He doesn't speak the language, he holds no currency, he is a foreign man, he is surrounded by the sound, the sound, cattle in the marketplace. Scatterlings and orphanages. He looks around, around, he sees angels in the architecture. Spinning in infinity. He says Amen. Hallelujah.
