It may be formulaic in some regards, but the medical puzzles and personal relationship dynamics (as well as other factors) do fluctuate . But since you probably watched three or four shows while flipping channels I don't expect you to appreciate the subtleties. I do have a thing for medical shows (not Scrubs or Grey's Anatomy) so I do enjoy it for that reason also. Maybe that's not your thing, but a "terrible" show it is not. Remember, your opinion isn't necessarily a universal truth.
I watched it for a season and that was enough. I really got into it then by the end was bored by it because every episode has the same plot point. Why do I care about the new medical mystery when I know how it's going to be solved in the end? I didn't care about any of the relationships because there wasn't any character I found likable. "Remember, your opinion isn't necessarily a universal truth." Right back at you.
