With tobacco, most of us try not to interfere with the lives of others. For the same reason that I would not approve of him or her consuming arsenic. Any company which would sneak such contents in their products are not defended by people like us.<br /><br />But we do defend smokers because smokers are usually old enough and have heard from enough people about the dangers of smoking when they buy them. I also have a girlfriend who smokes. I am trying to help her quit. As someone who likes to be in shape, I have no interest in touching tobacco.<br /><br />Finally, I distinguish second hand smoke from smoking all by yourself or smoking among other smokers in a lounge.<br /><br />But you know what I find ironic of those on the left? How passionate they are to legalize marijuana, but they go on these extreme moral crusades to punish tobacco users. Confusing, overwhelming, unsolvable problems.<br /><br />I'm not highly educated, but I'm not stupid.<br /><br />I observe, listen and watch everyone but I rarely debate or participate.<br /><br />All I know is that everyone is basically looking out for their own interests, wether they realize it or not. <br /><br />Anyone who claims to know everything and has it all figured out is usually either dead wrong or just lying (in part or in full to themselves and/or to others).<br /><br />Still, one has to take a stand somewhere and choose a side to some extent. <br /><br />I'm no anarchist. I agree we need a society, government and police. But I also hate the inherent, unavoidable corruption and abuse that comes with it.<br /><br />But I'm also half expecting society to crumble at any moment. I try to rely on the system as little as possible. I don't drive a car, I'm somewhat of a preper, I try to stay off the grid as much as possible, while still taking advantage of it as much as possible (a difficult balance).<br /><br />Bottom line is that everyone is an animal. Sometimes territorial and fierce, sometimes communal and bonding. But always wanting to dominate their surroundings using any means at their disposal, be it money and power, emotional subterfuge or brute force.<br /><br />I don't have it all figured out, but I do know you have to be damn careful out there and you can't really trust anyone. Not a stranger, not a family member, not a cop, not a president. <br /><br />Except that there are times when you have no choice. That's the rub.
