The oldest issue with ytmnd is that Max never took his baby really seriously. He's been running this site himself the entire span of its existence and could never keep up with the demands of the userbase, so they left. Instead of doing what any sensible person would do and turn ytmnd into a business and hiring people to keep up with demands and evolve the site and design, he insisted on keeping it completely static and self-contained within the community, only pushing to make vague promises of small incremental improvements based on a trickle of echo chamber demands (and even then he ignored some of that and made whatever you want to call YTMND 2.0). Max has never aggressively pushing for relevance, despite the clear opportunity to do so starting in mid 2006, ytmnd's peak, and that is why ytmnd has become the garbage heap of the internet instead of a viable alternative to other user-based media sites. Other sites grew up, and ytmnd festered and rot.

It could have easily been improved in a number of different ways. For example: 1) A moderator system that doesn't solely rely on the community to participate and fuck up. 2) A new format that isn't nearly as archaic as the gif. 3) More/better servers. 4) Sub-categories for different types of ytmnds, so the front page isn't always a disorganized clusterfuck of content. 5) A layout and color scheme that doesn't look like a Xanga webpage from 2002. 6) Contests that actually entice users of skill to participate by giving them a reward that matters (which leads me to my next idea) 7) Structure a metagame around community involvement and content creation: something like xbox live's gamerscore or an rpg's leveling system. 8) Have advertising that isn't embarrassing and that does not invade the viewing space of sites. 9) Hire programmers/web designers and a marketing team that knows how to make this site flourish. 10) manage the nearly impossible task of gearing ytmnd's content into something more appealing to the masses, so people will actually come here.

It's probably too late for some of this stuff, and I don't know how much of ytmnd's identity could be lost in the process, but it couldn't possibly become worse than it is right now. Who knows what could happen if Max actually put a lot of energy behind it.

I haven't "hired people to keep up with demand" because the majority of advertisers find you guys worthless, this site never has (and most likely never will) make me rich, or even enough to hire anyone with a decent skill-set to help out on the workload.

I love your new site visuals. It is very clean and easy to understand. It is also beautiful.

I also want to express my sympathy for your piriformis syndrome.

I had a thought. What if you told us YTMNDers how much all the new server upgrades cost? I am sure that there are some here who would like to help by donating. That includes myself. Until I get hired by someone, I can only give a small amount now.

Now that there are ads on the subdomains and I'm not trying to use YTMND income to pay for my rent and groceries, YTMND earns enough to pay for itself and save for a rainy day. Don't feel bad about not sponsoring stuff, we're okay money-wise.

If we had a significant rise in income, we could hire another person on to do some "community management" or coding or any of the many tasks that I have on my plate which get overlooked when I'm spread too thin. I think that's a pipe dream at the moment though.

That said, I've been working over some numbers and it looks like with the reduced number of sponsorships it looks like it would be worth it to increase the amount of time sponsorships last, from a week to more like 12-14 days, so in the future sponsorship should be worth a bit more. I also want to make note of the Kiva deal on the sponsorship page, because I'm still honoring those.

lol are you serious? I'm not a larping death cultist i'm just happy when pedophiles like Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell go to jail. How come Ghislaine Maxwell never had a problem in her life until President Trump won 2016? Ghislaine attended Chelsea Clinton's wedding, and Hillary Clinton hired Ghislaine's nephew to work at the State Department during her tenure as Secretary as State.

You will eventually realize that Q is the truth. Sooner or later.
