I have a suggestion for some fun with database power. I was discussing with a friend just the other day about creating a graphical visualization of the all sites on here. The graph would link sites based on their keywords, and you could visualize fads and how they interace. something like this: http://www.caida.org/tools/visualization/walrus/

I'd suggest some kind of fad section for the old and famous ones arranged in a descending tree format based on the creation dates of major ytmnds of those fads. Would really help people "new" to ytmnd who wonder wtf half the sites are about.

ten year olds which memes to parrot over and over /= ownage. Stop upvoting sh*t just because it contains fad x, or saying sh*t like '4, would be 5 if you add fad x.' A sites quality has nothing to do with the number of fads you squeeze in. Based on what I've seen in frontpage comments lately I don't expect it to get better anytime soon. I don't know why frontpage became such a noob sandbox, ebaum probably had something to do with all the new users registering, but damn it sucks somebody post the pic of the azn kid eating 1337 cereals and put it in top 15 lol.

...how about this, voters that only downvote, or have a greater sum of 1 stars than another other vote, lose their strength of the vote by 50%. Same with voters who only upvote, lose it by 50% also. ---> Then an algorithm can be based on the spread of your own votes, and everyone's vote would be the average of that.

What the hell, The Teutonic Knights or Teutonic Order is a German Roman Catholic religious order formed at the end of the 12th century in Acre in Palestine. During the Middle Ages they were a crusading military order and wore white surcoats with a black cross. The order played an important role in the Middle East controlling the port tolls of Acre and made a first attempt for an independent state.[citation needed] After Christian forces were defeated, the order moved to Transylvania in 1211 to help defend against the Cumans. They were expelled in 1225, when attempting to create an independent state.
Following the Golden Bull of Rimini, Grand Master Hermann von Salza and Duke Konrad I of Masovia made a joint invasion of Prussia in 1226 to Christianize the Baltic Old Prussians. The knights were then accused of cheating Polish rule and creating an independent monastic state. After basing itself in Prussia, the order became involved in many campaigns against its neighbours, the Kingdom of Poland, the Grand Duc

igher-dimensional way. This introduces significant changes to
gravitational dynamics and perturbations, with interesting and potentially testable
implications for high-energy astrophysics, black holes, and cosmology. Brane-world
models offer a phenomenological way to test some of the novel predictions and
corrections to general relativity that are implied by M theory. This review discusses
the geometry, dynamics and perturbations of simple brane-world models for cosmology
and astrophysics, mainly focusing on warped 5-dimensional brane-worlds based on the
Randall-Sundrum models.

Should be top 30, two sets of 15, and have the first set stay up a little long than the second each rotation. It's important that everyone sees the same sites every day, because that's what parody is based off of, popular knowledge of its subject. Just like the old days when it was the same sites on the front page forever, it spawned so many fads.

The new crappy joke opening made me lol hard this morning. Here is my last summary of how the new YTMND can be KICKED UP A NOTCH!!!1 BAM!!!!11
1. Font sizes need to be smaller everywhere and especially tweaked on digest page. 2. User selected color schemes should be implemented 3. The front page still needs some sort of Top Whatever list if possible. be it viewed, rated or voted on. I'm guessing something about a FP list would be problematic based on max's last comment?

hmm, I wonder if any revision could solve the issue of "indie"- sites that fall by the way side. Sites under 3.9 are pretty much lost to the ether. Maybe we could have a "User Spotlight" or something that shows like 3 sites at a time. Only pick users with 6 months + membership, and 3.25 average site rating. Dunno, but classic, and stupidy (see "Fishbiscuit") sites just can't grow roots on a sex obsessed instant gratification fad hungry user base... also see my fad comp for big laughs :p

I get nothing out of the aftermath of my comments. I spoke my mind and you're free to take it and run with it. If you disagree, it doesn't matter to me. If you call me gay for saying what I said, well heyguysitsasurprise.ytmnd.com, and you can infer that I don't really care. I don't. If what I'm saying is completely off base, and you make an intelligible response that convinces me, then I'll change my opinion. It won't make me any happier or sadder. Or, I guess, maybe it would if that were your point.

heres my biggest pet peeve right now - I like fads. but YTMND has gotten so large that a) potential fads drown amongst so many sites - you can create a fadworthy site but by the time the other versions of it are up people might not have any idea what its based off of and it doesnt get attention. b) actual fads are eaten up and chewed out amazingly fast - if you go away for the weekend you might miss one entirely

"Most of the Zidane stuff was stolen from gifdump. " Actually, I think many were taken from Something Awful...I heard they were doing some project based on the headbutt...but others like smoothmedia's take (France Fighter), an SFF from Lord of the Rings, an NEDM shootout styled site...those I would suppose took some effort. Oh yeah, the Katrina fad was just bad...only reedeming sites was a joke site with Zangief and Lousiana, but the amount of racism, poor humor, eh.

Apparently people think that the Garden of Eden is historical even though there is no historical evidence that even suggests that it is true. I don't know how you people categorize what is historical and what isn't, but I thought it was based on the historical evidence that suggests that it is true and not how strongly your faith in an archaic religion is. People are so f*cking dumb it's unbelievable. And, by the idiots' logic, the Greek gods exist because Homer said so. What a joke.
