It's not because I sped it up (which I did), it's because the songs are in different keys. One of them has to sound either too high or too deep. Either that or it sounds really annoying and off-key.

Yeah, I always got these songs confused on the radio because they sound the same. However, I find them far less irritating than the formulaic progressions and trite, forced rhymes of Nickelback.

Coldplay are the ones who cheated by releasing the same song in two different keys. The song is only slightly sped up, the bigger difference is the key change. Which is not a big change at all, but if it's too much for your mind to comprehend, so be it.
