I'm sorry, but I really don't feel like remembering that. I don't like how the surrender came to be.
August 15th, 2006

Oh yea, well in 50 years the japanese are gonna have giant robots and lay waste to the world.

^dumbasses, without the bomb more lives would have been lost from continuing war casulties
August 15th, 2006
(-3)
More Japanese civilians would have been killed with conventional weapons that with the Atomic bombs. Not to mention countless Japanese and American soldiers.
August 15th, 2006
(0)
^Dumbass, less lives could have been lost if the US had only mlockaded Japan instead, and just wait them out.
August 15th, 2006

Saw this in newly created and was really happy. =)

^ The Russians would have invaded northern Japan, most likely, and Japan would have been divided similarly to Korea and Vietnam, causing future wars.

America FTW!

WOOOOOOOOO ASIANS LOSE!
August 15th, 2006

^^^^ Future wars between what? America and the USSR? Perhaps...oh wait, there was a cold war between the two anyways. Worst that would have happened would have been a wall like that built in Berlin.
August 15th, 2006
(-3)
^ Have you heard of the Korean of Vietnam War? And I don't think Japan would have been better off with half of it poor and communist.

CommieWerewolf doesn't know his history, or he's know that wars were almost fought over Berlin twice. Communism fails at everything.

It’s reassuring that Locke5 can so deftly gaze into the vast spectrum of alternate histories. Otherwise, I might feel a bit hesitant about celebrating the first and hopefully last instance of nuclear terrorism...
August 15th, 2006
(0)
It's the only "alternate" history backed up by the battle plans of both sides of the war, dumbass.

“Meeting” someone on the internet is one of the most ignorant things I’ve heard in a long time...
August 15th, 2006

the A-bomb saved hundreds of thousands if not millions of american and japanese lives, not to mention prevented those godless communist bastards from taking a chunk of japan. Anyone who is familiar with what the invasion plans for japan entailed knows this.
August 15th, 2006

Cite sources please. It's really not that hard.
August 15th, 2006
(0)
He doesn't need to cite sources on images and sound clips from 61 years ago. I believe they're public record now.
August 15th, 2006

While it is possible to "meet" people on the Internet, I'll concede that it was a very ignorant choice of words in this situation if you concede that "nuclear terrorism" is an ignorant choice of words to use regarding this event.

On the same day 3 years earlier, the Army designated its first airborne division, the 82nd Airborne Division. Also, tomorrow is National Airborne Day, being the anniversary of the first successful jump of the Army Parachute Test Platoon. Don't ask me how I know these fun facts.

If you examine the basic criteria of what classifies terrorism, you’ll discover that the nuclear bombardment of Japan matches said criteria almost without exception. The eradication of civilian populations or installations of little to no military significance, the intention of inflicting fear upon a given enemy, etc. But this is hardly a suitable forum for intelligent debate, so I’m making this my final word on the matter...

ALSO IN RECENT NEWS I SPAMMED THE HELL OUT OF ONE OF THE TOP 15 SITES LOL!

Victory over Japan Day is the 14th, not the 15th. It was only the 15th in Japan.
August 15th, 2006

And it happened in Japan, so its the 15th.

5 for history and intelligent conversation(mostly). zer0hue, notice that the islamic terrorists we fight against are not the military force of any particular country, don't wear military uniforms, employ guerilla warefare tactics, will bomb random people, will bomb people out of intolerence for others religion, and will strap bombs onto children. When we nuked Japan, we killed the enemy.
August 15th, 2006

my substitute teacher drove the Japanese delegation's boat to the surrender ship

America > Japan
August 15th, 2006
(0)
maybe it was "terrorism", but it was necessary to end the war. And it actually did make the world a better place (in the long run) for both the japanese and the americans, unlike islamic terrorism which seeks to make the world united under an oppressive and backwards religious extremism. War is ugly, on that I think we can all agree.
August 16th, 2006
(0)
Most definitions of terrorism don't allow for the actions of a government's military to be called terrorism. You can call them war crimes, but not terrorism. Also, many of the "terrorists" in Iraq are misnamed because attacks on United States forces or Iraqi forces are not acts of terrorism. Obviously this doesn't apply to those who attack Iraqi civilians, but I get quite annoyed at our military when it refers to all enemies in Iraq as terrorists. The word is thrown around quite liberally.

I would just like to say to you, Locke5, that your understanding of history and global events is superb. It is too bad that there are too many stupid people in the world making asinine comments like they do that have downvoted your site. Kudos to you, my friend and patriot.
