+5 for the intent, but I have no faith in God. I pretty much lost it after I realized the convenience of Christianity and the dissimilarities of the Old and New Testaments. And, actually, I would rather burn in hell than be saved out of pity by you. Not dissing you, just saying that that's the decision I've made with my life. One useful advancement in science: uhm - modern genetics, modern medicine, archeology, annthropology, the understanding of human pre-history.
All these things are PROVEABLE in the real world. You can believe what you want but dont try to bring an untestable hypothesis (god, etc.) into a testable realm (physical world). they just dont work mi amigo.
It takes a lot of guts to offer up an appology, especially on this subject. Many many people do not have the character to do that. And to those who ask how peterguy can respect atheist believes while he thinks they're ignorant. It's really quite simple: The same way I can respect peterguy's beliefs while I think Christians are certifiably insane.

Disclaimer: I am not an atheist. +5 for intent, -4 for execution. I am going to my speech straight: you don't have the tools to swing for these fences. You are not aware of the basic tenets of theology or logic. You don't have the tools or the knowledge to have an intelligent conversation about others' beliefs (be they theists or atheists), and you have fundamental misconceptions that prevent you from sharing your own beliefs and from reaching a fuller relationship with the Lord.
Anyone else find it odd that a fellow Christian by the name "GendoIkari" clearly a japanese referenced name : (Shintoism + Buddhism) Donated more money than Peter to keep this on the front page? Also, I find by commenting on this site we are all guilty of playing into Peterguy's hands which is not the spread of the "Word" of god, (which can be found at hotels everywhere next to the dead hooker) but merely for exposure? Nor do I think he has truely become sorry from all the previous sites he has posted. FTL
I mean seriously, if you respected our beliefs you wouldn't be trying to "Help us" out of love or out of everything else. If you respected our beliefs you would sit back and say "Well, okay, that person must be going where they say they are going when they die." THAT is respecting someone's beliefs. What you are doing is called "Vanity" and if I'm not mistaken in YOUR religion, that's one of the big no-no's.
Thanks for making such a stirring and brave apology. Now onto the mocking part. God knows everything, so god knows who goes to hell or not, so why bother? Doesn't seem like a nice god if he lets a vast majority of the people on earth suffer for eternity when they die. And you can't have an intimate relationship with a mythological concept.

Take SETI, good old science run project, using its technology we have been able to tell that billions of planets dont contain life.
Using statistics, the fact that other planets dont contain ANY life, and ours only contains life nowhere NEAR our ability, science technology etc, statistically, our extremely circumstantial "evolution" is less likely then there being a man in the sky who made us all. Hence the fact that even half the science community dont like the THEORY of evolution. and christianity, stop the science bashing too. As the pope said, if anything will ever prove the existance of god, its science, (new pope not dead pope).

Peterguy, I think the apology would be better accepted if you didn't keep saying "btw evolution is wrong" throughout it. IMO, if evolution did/does occur (which it more than likely does), who's to say God didn't set it in motion?
One useful advancement in science: The Aqueduct? Also... until you understand the terminology, stop using the word THEORY to try and make it sound like evolution is an idea someone came up with after a night of binge drinking... There's something called the Theory of Gravitation too and you'd sounds just as backwards denying it as you do denying evolution.
It's sad seeing people go into a fit over this YTMND. That doesn't mean I agree with you, Peterguy. As for the question "motu, challenge, name 1 useful advancement of science because of evolution", science is about everything, including change (which is evolution). Evolution is change. There is a reason why we managed to get different breeds of dogs: the population changed over time. That's the beauty of science: as more information pops up, paradigms change so we get closer to the truth every time.

@ benjaphar -- Exactly. So many calm spoken responses against Creationism and Christianity in this thread... all of them ignored. It takes someone going into a raged rant about them and their religion to get them to stop and respond... 9 out of 10 times it ends up being a condesending, overlooking, and selective arguement pointing out overall mood and language rather than trying to debunct specific points of topic. Or just turns out to be an "I'll pray for you" backhanded comment.

you know this site has actually thought me something, whether your a christian or an athiest it doesnt matter as long as we can babble and argue to eternity were all happy. But when a person tells my kids that they can no longer learn about evolution because evolution is a "religion" then i get offended. Nope, there are some animals which can reproduce both sexually and asexually (bees, for example) and in the past there were more (sex evolved back when there were still microbes).
The BIG advantage to sexual reproduction is the ability to exchange and acquire NEW genetic material, and hence new beneficial mutations. It also prevents replicative fading. Before sex, offspring were merely identical reproductions of the parent. And like a xerox, if you just keep making copies of copies of copies, eventually things break down. Complexity will not arise. That's why most asexual reproducers today are very primitive life forms.

This is nice. I never thought that you were just trying to be an *ssh*l*e, just that you were wrong. Evolution is scientific fact (yes, and theory, but scientific theory is different from saying "I theorize that the moon is made of cheese!") This is not an opinion, it is scientific truth, and you're gonna have to factor that into your beliefs, because denying the facts just makes you ignorent. However, there is nothing wrong with learning about peoples beliefs, much less discussing them, and debate can be good as long as it doesn't turn ugly.

Far too many fields of research and study to list them all. You who choose not to research and only study ancient folklore should not comment on mankinds current progress of knowledge.
