Cool, but the way were treating the planet right now we probably won't even be around in a million years.

Actually, By then when the sun gets so big, they will have the technology the move earth more away from the sun

Just curious, but why do the plates change direction and close the Atlantic Ocean back up, instead of closing the Pacific?

Let's see Whetstone. Your evidence, which is just a bunch of vague witness accounts from hallucinating priests from several centuries ago, or the evidence compiled by scientists and astronomers alike.. hmmmmmm. Your ytmnd is a scare tactic. Even the creepy music proves it to be. This Ytmnd just educates and doesn't scream. CHANGE NOW OR YOU"RE ALL DOOMED AHAHASHDASDaSDHASK. By the time our planet starts getting screwed we're gonna be living on another planet. We can already teleport a single molecule.

also, as the sun becomes a red giant, won't the orbits of the planets expand, meaning the Earth may avoid being engulfed?

Fools. Do you not see where the world is heading? Less than a quarter of us in this topic will be alive 30 years from now.

Excellent. Although, in your 'galaxies collide segment', you say that many supernovae will result from stars being born, when really, it's the opposite. Supernovae would indeed occur due to gravitational instability (from the colliding galaxies) and as a result, stars would be born in the gas clouds of the supernovae. :)

good thing that "jesus came" right somewhere in the middle of all this stuff, and god's plan for the world ends with some kind of armageddon thats supposed to destroy the entire universe...........because, as we know....we are all that's important in this universe that we've only been able to see like 3% of from where we sit on this oh-so-important little blue planet.

The sooner we get to outer space and meet aliens, the sooner we can stop killing each other and begin annihilating every living lifeform in the universe that isn't from Earth. Out of spite. Especially sentient aliens. Those are really gay. Humans > all. Space elves should be the first to die. And possibly Ewoks.

I hope i live to see the day. Really think about it, instead of us worrying about super smart aliens killing us WE become the invaders!!!! HAHAHAHA!!! HUMAN POWER!!! F*CK THOSE ILLEGRAL SPACE ALIENS!!! GET THE F*CK OUT OF MY UNIVERSE

Great YTMND that basically describes the curiousity of the earth's end. As a kid, I loved any little picture or anything in Science books that mentioned any of the points just made. It was like real-life Sci-fi to me at the time.

You're getting 5's for the same reason Smoothmedia got 5's for a tiny glimpse. Because the benighted children of YTMND never have the inclination to look outside of YTMND to learn fascinating things like what was presented in this great slide show. I don't know whether to commend you for enriching their experience here at YTMND or downvote you for exploiting the fact that they don't already know these things and so would be blown away by them, giving you instant 5's. So it's WS, no more no less.

Stuff you might want to add on at the end: *If our current understanding is correct* the universe is expanding exponentially. Should this continue into the future, it's possible that the universe's hubble radius will shrink to an infinitely small size. (The hubble radius is the distance from an observer in which distant objects appear to be moving away at the speed of light) Essentially, all physical structure will be ripped apart by the universe's expansion. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Rip

Two points: 1. "It's" is already possessive. For such a brilliant scientist, you should probably know this. 2. The argument you make of "Let's keep our kids alive so they can crash their continents into each other" makes absolutely no sense.

Hunh, I faved this but I haven't fived this... well, that changes now. Glad to see this awesome YTMND getting a bit more attention. While my YTMND chronicles what COULD happen to our world, this chronicles what WILL happen to our world. It's an inspiration. Now, if only the "Size of our World" YTMNDs could also benefit from the attention...

You forgot the part where L. Ron Hubbard puts all 50 billion people on earth into 150 747's and flies us to the Andromeda galaxy in about 50 years. And the part where I get sued by the church of scientology for saying that. And again for not capitalizing the church of scientology.

The 50,000 year mark seems a mite optimistic, but in the aggregate, I had to say this was an enjoyable YTMND.

Aside to the fact that you didn't touch uppon the expanding earth(which is nolonger a theory btw, although many refuse to admit to the reality of it), not bad.

Wow... I can't believe you people actually think this is a good way to encourage peace. No matter what we do, the human race is eventually doomed. That's why we must make NOW good. Anyway, you have the continents drifting the wrong way, moron. The Pacific ocean is shrinking, not the Atlantic. Start paying more attention in your HS science classes and I might +3 this.

Overall, extremely well done, but you jumped the gun on the black dwarf by quite a bit. I don't know exactly how long it would take for a white dwarf to cool entirely, but most astrophysicists beleive that no black dwarfs exist yet. That suggests a white dwarf lifespan in excess of ten billion years.

Fyi, you made some spelling/grammatical errors.. two on one page (too lazy to re-watch it and count). It's should be its, intersteller should be interstellar. It really detracted from the whole thing imo... adding to that, I'm pretty damn positive that the tectonic motion will be basically the reverse regarding the Americas. There is (currently) nothing nearly as powerful or earth-moving (no pun intended) as the mid-Atlantic ridge. Also, there is a new theory floating around called the Big Rip, (continued)

.. predicts that in ~50 billion years that due to Dark Energy forcing ever-increasing expansion, that atoms themselves come apart due to the speed being too fast, and everything just disintegrates over a short period of time.

This is really interesting, obviously by just a few thousand years from now I'd say our technology will be impossibly advanced to the point at which nothing like this poses a threat, and by the billions of years in the future that Earth would be completely eradicated we'll probably hold the key to travel to different dimensions and all kinds of crazy sh*t.

When the sun expands it won't consume Earth because it'll give off so much energy that it will push it away. It'll still be a scorched rock, but not consumed.

Sorry, the images are reversed. The pacific is contracting, the atlantic is expanding. The continents of today that were once pangea are NOT reversing to REFORM pangea as your ytmnd points out.

The people who say that it's wrong because the Atlantic is currently spreading are making the erroneous assumption that continental drift is a constant. That is a mistake.
