I knew someone was going to be critical of this. The truth is that the internet was not the first network of its kind, and since I was too lazy to find out the official date that the "internet" network your stuck with this rough estimate of when it became mainstream.
Okay, so I am getting the idea that I should probably remove the end so it will be more evident that I am not implying the end of the internet now, because it clearly isn't.
