Ancient christians made it a hobbie to tourch books that where older than the dead sea scrolls. they even erased manusripts of Archemedies, the man who discovered pi. The reason why we know anything at all of the philosophy, sciences, and mathmatics of the ancients is that islam refused to destroy such valuable knowledge. Knights brought it back with them during the crusades, and they would later trigger the renesaunce.
The Catholic and Byzantine Church preserved tons of ancient knowledge and later priests and monks translated other texts during the medieval times. There were a huge number of medieval christians philosophers, scientists and mathematicians. The islamic culture flourished from the 8th to 10th century but stalled on the 11th century and by the 12th century Western Europe began a Renaissance that started within the Catholic Church.
