I kept waiting for the rooster but IT NEVER CROWED
(7)
CERN doesn't need to hear all this, they're highly trained professionals. They've assured their Administrators that nothing will go wrong.

For some reason, this comment makes me MOST nervous.
August 6th, 2008

Well i don't know how you could say that, although i will admit the chances of the world ending are extremely unlikely.

That huge expensive machine just to find a subatomic particle. Surely there is a more elegant way to find it. :/
August 6th, 2008
(2)
tell us genius. what's more elegant than sending particles to collide with each other at greater than 99% of the speed of light
August 6th, 2008
(1)
I like all the HALFLIFE commentary.

I hope one of the scientists gets transported to an alien world and has to kick fanged leeches and dodge laser blasts to survive. Along the way, he could meet up with a tall alien in a detention center, and they could escape the planet together. That would be awesome.

Did anyone remember to light the PQ-36 Space Modulator?
August 6th, 2008

Bullsh*t. There is no colision experiment in the next few weeks. You'll have to wait 3-4 months for the first real experiment.

Such epic music for the end of the world...it's so sad and inevitable.
August 6th, 2008

These comments are hilarious. No one has a f*cking clue what will happen, not even the people running the experiment. Best case scenario, we find the higgs boson or some other equally benign particle or mechanism. Worst case scenario, hawking's radiation doesn't exist and the world is slowly devoured by a mini-black hole. Just sit back and enjoy the show.

Of all days, they pick August 7th, 2008. I'm sittin' here thinking, "Nothing can stop me, now!" My 21st birthday approaches with a speed unlike any I've felt before. I can see alcohol, and joy, and drunken dumb bitches running around with their tops off. I can finally go to Pawtucket Pat's famous brewery. By my counts, I've been old enough to be drafted for 2 years and 364 days! One more day, and I wll feel the level of epic maturity that only comes with being exactly 21! Off to the bars! Hey.. wai</life>
August 6th, 2008
(1)
August 7th is my birthday too. Except i'll be 24

So our are deaths gonna be quick or long and excruciating?
August 6th, 2008
(0)
If this goes wrong it will be one of the worst deaths one can suffer... the black hole will suck everything towards it, slow at first then faster as it grows... theoretically if it does fail then the black hole would exist until the power is cut so best case is all of Europe would be dead and a major crater would form in its place... worst case it sucks the world inside out as it consumes all of the matter that makes up earth, thus here in the States we would be ripped apart piece by piece.
August 6th, 2008
(1)
Also don't forget that the movie "The Mist" covers a US Government experiment named "Arrowhead" which was designed to do what this thing in Europe was built to do which is punch a hole into another dimension... So another scenario would have us all waking up tomorrow in a misty world full of creatures trying to eat us alive... that is if the monkey spiders don't kill us all first...
August 6th, 2008
(3)
hope they take a shot of the black hole and photoshop it in goatse

The end is not tomorrow... they will be shooting protons in one direction to make sure it works! No collisions will occur for some time. However... eventually they will start pew pewing protons.

Don't any of you realize that the LHC won't destroy all matter on Earth. It will simply convert us into an entirely new species ruled by our true inter-dimensional overlords. Our new bodies and consciousness will be added to the galactic simulacrum. All the energy expended on our feeble and unworthy endeavors will be redirected as worship to the universal enslavers who will rend our souls and minds apart and make them serve the truly deserved in the infinite multitude of universes.
August 7th, 2008

The final days of your physical, philosophical and spiritual freedoms are finally at and end and the all embracing comfort of servitude will soon blanket you like your mothers lash from the whip. Rejoice in the herald of magnanimous universal indenturements arrival. For soon we will all now the pleasures of what it is serve a superior spirituality!!!
