I'm willing to bet that a sizable portion of people on this website that regularly engage in e-drama, do so because they have real problems that they are trying to avoiding. So they redirect their anger and angst towards people they don't know, because its easier to confront strangers on the internet than it is to confront someone you know face to face, and take a stance that has real world consequences. Basically, interaction on ytmnd has become a replacement for meaningful social interaction, where the topic is something they are always familiar with and the conflicts are always predictable and comfortable. As for why there's so much hostility and/or personal grandstanding: it's psychological compensation, pure and simple. If there has ever been a hive of people with some sort of personality deficiency, I haven't seen it.
