As well as an effective and totally not asinine way of trying to move merchandise. Especially if it's packed full of... something other than the stuff that's usually inside of cell phone chargers.
It really has nothing to do with their era, though, they're just a lousy band. Their label has obviously done a really good job thrusting them in and out of the culture and convincing at least a few people that they should like them.
