pressure drop

I've spent a few hours updating the TODO list and posted it up here. Check it out and discuss it inside.

Also for those of you that didn't catch it the Washington Post published an article on Sunday about YTMND. Check it out Online or in print. You are now allowed to officially call yourselves artists.

edit:let's see if this doesn't crash the server, presenting: YTMND Spy.

also: if I haven't responded to you about the SoaP screener it's because I got about a billion requests. I don't know how I'm going to choose but I'll wait until I get word, so as not to count my chickens before they hatch.

Maybe have an option to let the users pick just one of their YTMNDs to be shown on the front page every so often. A section would be made for this and would cycle through all the ones picked by the creators themselves.

Actually, will the warning system mods get have a level system. I mean if we find that all of someone's sites are hentai or some similarly disgusting rubbish there isn't much point giving them a small warning, it'd be better just to ban or delete them straight away.

I don't know, I kind of like the option to delete comments. If someone stole something, they aren't going to stop just because a few people yell at them for stealing. On the other hand, there are a few discussions I've gotten into in comments sections (before the PM system arrived) that take up a lot of space on a couple of my pages. Would be nice to be able to clean them up. Also (if I missed something like this on the TODO, sorry) on the user profile a "respected users" list would be nice - just a list of people you recommend. Maybe a list of the people who recommend you as well...less ugh-y than a "friends" list.

I'm not too sure about the option to 'trash' a site. Although YTMND would be a better place if crap sites got trashed, I have a feeling that some persistant fools combined with laziness/unwillingness to click a button to save a site people like could lose us some decent sites. Also, I'm not sure if this was mentioned in the Todo, but is there some feasability in offering a selection of fad sound files so that they're not uploaded 50.000 times? Or, even better, (and if it's not existant already), some way to check if an uploaded soundfile is already present on the server, and then simply linking to that soundfile instead of storing the exact same thing over and over? This might help with bandwidth/storage issues... Also Poland.

Hahaha I bet you probably have stopped reading these already, but in response to the TODO list, I have 2 things to say: 1. I don't think the weighted vote system is a good idea. Adding a class system to YTMND is just begging for trouble, and the socialist way things are right now seems to be working very well. We just need to educate some of the more stupid users instead of disenfranchising them. 2. "Automagicly" is my favorite word of the day.

I love most of that. Especially the "users who liked ____ also liked." One issue, though - deleting comments on sites. People have asked for it, but comments are usually the only way to point out sites that steal content or use ancient sh*t. You know most users will just delete any mention of that to preserve their scores. The current voting system might be imperfect and full of petty bullsh*t, but at least the comments can be pretty democratizing.

About the "*-- Sound doesn's stop when you hit back, or leave page. *-- Doesn't work if there is an ad on the page (not sure if it's IE specific)" Are these ordinary ads? Or flash ads? It's possible that the actionscript the ads are using is messing with the preloader. I've run into this sort of problem before when having multiple flash files on one page. Since stop(); and most of the other Timeline Control functions are global... Say there's a flash ad at the top within the site description bar. The ad and the flash preloader will both turn on as the site loads, but the ad executes stop();. The flash preloader gets this and stops or just skips what is was doing all together... I don't know. I found a way around this before. Or this isn't even what is happening. I'll look into this for the hell of it.

Letting site creators delete comments would bring about mass plagarism and chaos. Having to cite all images and sound clips will dramatically improve ytmnd. Ytmnd Spy is a neat little feature, but it might take up too much space. Weighted votes don't sound too good either.

MasterSitsu has a point, but there have always been users petty enough to evenge, Spy or no Spy. But yes, perhaps it's not such a great idea.

After reading subsequent comments, I would like to revoke my enthusiasm and support for YTMND Spy. Indeed, it is an impressive feature, but I have come to fear how some users may see fit to employ it... That said, my support for "bush eats babies?" still stands.

One thing I just want to pick on here Max, I'd raise the rate of the proposed NSFW percentage to about 70%-75%. I'm willing to bet that there's still a lot of people who click the NWS button as part of an e-venge attack.

The YTMND spy is cool, But alot of things are coming in fast! which means any link I click, there is a chance I will miss, and it's frustrainting. maybe there should be a link that has javascript or something to stop the list, resume, go backwords, and refresh the page, kind of like a DVD player's Play, Stop, forward, and rewind. thats my thought

I'm loving the TODO list. Although if someone can delete comments on their own site, that's NO good. Being able to delete criticisms of your site would mean people would delete the mean ones, and the witty responses to the particularly horrible ytmnds is one of the things I like most (your "this site is sh*t on so many levels" comment comes to mind).

In an attempt to make YTMNSFW more popular, make a simple link to it in the menu bar from YTMND, also give the site creator the ability to NWS their creation, this will force more people to visit YTMNSFW to look at more YTMNDs. Right now it seems that YTMNSFW is being treated like the concentration camp for YTMNDs... and thats no good
