I make a living from PS and the rest of CS standard -Ai & ID. <br /><br />I wish Gimp was a viable alternative for what I do, but it's not. And I am seeking real alternatives that can do true cmyk + spot, clipping paths and smart objects. Gimp can muddle through some but not all of it. Acorn, Pixelmator, Photoline, corel, etc. are all vastly inferior for high-end print work (for now).<br /><br />I would like one of them to rise up, because I am super fucking pissed at Adobe though for it's subscription-only bullshit. CS6 will likely be my last version.<br /><br />If a real alternative is developed in the next 5 years I will ditch PS for sure.

its a good point. This wasnt an issue simply because Sharpton and Jackson stepped in. They're always stepping in, even against black artists/personalities, and they are listened to only when someone who WANTS to put a microphone in front of them, does. Again I think back to Glenn Beck calling Katrina survivors scumbags and asking Keith Ellison to prove he wasnt a terrorist. All it would have taken was a different set of phonecalls from a different set of influential people to cut off his head. but it didnt happen. Ann Coulter pisses people off all the time, but she survives. Theres tonnes of little factors that determine who lives and who dies by their comments. i think McCain is a decent person, and by republican standards would be a good leader, however to get there its depressing to watch him sacrifice the 'maverick'ness by sucking up to jerry falwell, already flip flopping like crazy and otherwise doing everything he can to strengthen a base. in other words, he's becoming as fake as hillary is now. federal politics turns otherwise decent people into well, to quote Bill Hicks, liars and murderers. if Obama were elected (and hey i think he's likeable too) Eventually he'd have blood on his hands too. Alternatively to the Persian/Arabic example, there are plenty of other countries such as Iceland, whose age of consent is 14, yet they have as close as a country is able to come to gender equality and standard of living.
