It is moving. Slightly. And it's relative to its counterpart. Escher rules, and I like his Moebius strip better than this parlor trick. Good music.

Yet another piece of work missing from the MC Escher exhibit at the Sacramento Crocker Art Museum a couple weeks ago. Also, I see what they did thar... creative

It's actually not moving, it's a very fancy light trick that requires the light sources for both halves of the embossed image to move in opposite direction of eachother, but at the same speed.

inversion is fun I gotta admit
September 13th, 2006
(0)
also baron is a moron, the image is just getting inverted, therefore the black border changes to white, making it appear to be distorting, while the entire image stays still.

There is movement, though. If you look at the diagonal line going from the top right of the picture to the bottom left you can see that. YOU FAIL/LIE!

"There is movement, though. If you look at the diagonal line going from the top right of the picture to the bottom left you can see that. YOU FAIL/LIE!" ---lol, people are dumb.

I'll explain further - first of all, there is no actual "movement" in animation - it's all just still frames that give illusion of "movement." That's part of the artistic statement that's lost on some folks. Next, even in conventional animation terms, this image is NOT moving. It's a trick of virtual "light."

If you look at the link in the description, you'll see it explained thus by the creator: "This animated gif was made with the method developed by William T. Freeman, Edward H. Adelson, and David J. Heeger at the Media Laboratory of Massachusetts Institute of Technology and published in Volume 25, of SIGGRAPH '91 Conference Proceedings. It uses "a quadrature pair of oriented filters to vary the local phase, giving the sensation of motion". I tested this method, by writing a C++ program to apply filters to an image in such a way that it's upper left part (above the diagoval) appears to move right and upward, and lower right part appears to move in the opposite direction, which is just right for the picture of M. C. Escher "Drawing Hands":"

Actually, the picture isn't half bad, the problem is the music. Pink Floyd is overrated and I just don't find him entertaining in the least. It has been my experience that the only people it seems that really like that music are stoners and hippies.

cooke - I gave you a 5 and a 4 on two of your Walken sites, even after you 1'd this. I also gave you a couple 2's and a couple 3's. I was just checking over your stuff - not avenging. I thought you were downvoting my site for no good reason, yes, but that's your right. I try to be fair, and I am aware that votes are documented. I tend to vote high or low (especially on things I think are under-rated or over-rated) and ignore stuff I think is just mediocre, and my average vote is still 2.32 - almost dead in the middle. I'll stand by that.

1 you did not make it, and two, you would get the same effect by moving a light over the image: That's basically what it is simulating. Also, the border is way to visible.
September 13th, 2006
(0)
Hmmm... I think the border actually adds to the effect. Ah, well.

Wait, the hands are clearly moving. I can see the dividing line where the two images are sliding up and down against each other.
September 13th, 2006
(0)
2'd, because there is definitely movement causing the motion. Stare at the corners to see what I mean.
September 13th, 2006
(0)
They aren't moving, they are just inversing colors, if you don't believe that put your mouse over something and watch it not move. The diagonal line divides the painting's colors, inverted on top, regular on bottom. Then the colors reverse. This gives a perception of motion, but like Escher's works, thats just an Illusion
September 13th, 2006
(0)
If you think its moving, try using your mouse to check If you still think so, then your a moron.

If you look in the middle, you can see a diagonal line splitting the image. While the illusion is nice, the image is still being manipulated with motionnnnnn
September 13th, 2006

Oh, read the comment about it splitting the inverted colors and whatnot. Nice illusion
