As I sit here just finishing my christmas eve dinner of spare ribs and chow mein, I felt the need to give you all a little update of what's been going on at YTMND headquarters.
It's been a long year, and I don't think I've accomplished as much as I would have liked. I hope to change that this year. The last few months have consumed me in a duty I am not only not very good at, but something that causes me to die a little each time I have to deal with it: advertising.
As the site grows in size and cost, advertising becomes more and more of a requirement in order to keep enough money coming in to pay the bills. I've been trying to manage this all on my own and honestly not doing very well, I should stick to programming.
Luckily, I signed up with Federated Media who will be representing all of YTMND's ad space. This means in the coming months as I slowly leave more and more up to them, I can get back to coding. I know the site is riddled with bugs, broken features and horrible abusive users.
I aim to change that, and my first order of business is to launch a new moderation setup which includes a couple hundred new moderaters. I will go into this more in a future post, so if you send me a private message asking me to be a moderator, I'm going to delete you.
Anyway, that's all I have to say for the time being. Stay safe this xmas/new years. I'll be back in the new year to make a fresh start of YTMND.

http://theyjustfadeaway.ytmnd.com/ - raises very good points about what the new layout has done to old sites. one thing i still dearly dearly dearly miss from the old layout is clicking 'top rated' on the front page and seeing every site there by rating as far as i wanted to go... now anyone has to wade through the digest, and most people simply dont. its been a failure thus far to be honest. for example i have a 4.58 site that got less than 50 views yesterday, as opposed to in the past having 4.15's That over time got 30,000 views by people easily navigating through the front page 'top rated' search mode.
I meant that in a # of ways, too: the site has strayed so far from its original form that it's rare to see an "actual" ytmnd survive the votes of current users who don't get picture/sound/text. Plus, the voting system is so inflated/deflated at this point that it's really nothing more than a means of getting something on or off the front page quickly. And finally, and most obviously, the rampant *ssh*le acc'ts are just as bad as any DDoS attack, as they've effectively laid to waste the sites core users.
You think it's possible that these attention whore downvoters are somehow connected to Ebaum's crap? Just call it a hunch. But I believe that there has to be some sort of connection from some other site that isn't too fond of YTMND. It's just a feeling I got since it's almost been a year since that forum raid happened. Something is just not right about this.

Man this used to be the only place I could come to drunk and tired and have a laugh and now it's just... I mean... my whole life is YTMND sucking, my favorite bars sucking, my favorite everythings are just crap. Thanks for helping me choose life MAX. I think max is sick of running this site and is letting it die. If it wasn't for the FPA forums I wouldn't even come here anymore. Poland sites are the only ones I can find since the DV gimmicks and Joshcube sh*t started. I mean dude, max, if you hate this site so much just sell it to someone who gives a sh*t. Sell it to eBaum for all I care, but... whatever.
Also one of those gay guys was talking about "Finding Forrester" and I could not stop laughing and saying "You're the man now dog", which itself is very gay, but when does that happen irl? I mean when are you drunk at 5 am with a 50-year old gay dude and his lover, swilling cherry vodka and watching Meerkat Manor and f*cking YTMND comes up... maybe this site isn't dead.
fourest (or, apparently, hacked fourest) PMed me January 5th, 2007 @ 08:24 PM once with the message "MSN OR AIM LOL". It looked too random (nevermind the childish language of the four-word message, and that we almost never talked in PMs in the first place) for me to respond, but I almost did (and felt guilty not doing so) having seen and loved his sites. Don't give random sh*t to random people. Not even Firefox will help you there.

"Hmmm, I wouldn't consider Dantheman a "big user"." Dantheman started out ragging on me all the time, then we got along for a while after i gave him some tips on making gifs - etc, then he got really jaded with YTMND again and started trolling me again... for the most part i forget most of his own sites, but I remember him certainly being above average. ven wolfson/gummyworms had started making some good classic sites and some surprising gifs. in the end as a whole it didnt make up for everything else.
I can see how, if you got the skills (and thus the PWs) and yr all hyped up on goofballs it seems funny at the moment. But yeah, that's lame. Dr-L337 was at it's best when it was in collab mode and for starting that Dantheman deserves a plaque here somewhere. And hell wolfson is as funny as he is annoying. But it's pretty lame over all.

Am I the only one that thought that fourest getting phished and phried was funny? I mean, come on, the internet isn't supposed to be serious business, but you people are acting like they raped and murdered him. There's more to life than a semi-permanent record of your ytmnd sites. By 'more to life' I don't mean something that you have to go outside for, either.
Some people get pissed off when everyone in the country calls them the Biggest Douche In The Universe. I fail to see how that wasn't funny. Also, when max mocked him and denied his requests, that was funny too. I doubt he enjoyed that, either. If you can't take the heat, what are you doing on a humor* website? Go to the Better Homes and Gardens message board if you want to feel safe and secure.

Wasp set us up the forum on flyinglobsters, and I certainly wasn't excited about the forum getting hacked, but I thought it was funny. And that automatically makes me an elitist prick? Right. i'll take your bait. if you actually had been following around long enough, you'd see the big concern is people who negatively contribute to the site driving away valuable users. fourests sites have brought me more entertaining than your bitching and post hardcore gif experimentations, so sorry if i'm more concerned at the loss of his sites than whether or not you got a chuckle at someone elses expense. thats why you're a leech.

I try not to concern myself with Wolfson. I thought the prank was funny, so when you ask me whether the prank was funny, I'm going to have to answer that it was. I also think it's funny that Wolfson obsesses over a website that has repeatedly banned him and makes fun of him, and funnier still that we turn him into a ytmnd celebrity for his habit of social retardation. As for the gimmicks, I think they're kind of funny. I mean, none of my sites are over 4, so who cares how low they go?
