alpha beta gaga

I'm going pretty insane working on nothing but moderation stuff. I want to get a few new features that might be fun to code done in the mean time.

Take a look at the TODO file and leave a comment on the feature you'd most like to see get developed this week. Whatever seems to get the most response is what I will work on.

Actually I'm with BTape on wanting focus to be on the moderation system, but Weighted Voting would be REALLY REALLY nice. Really gives an incentive to make people vote wisely and give correct votes accordingly. I liked the algorithm you had put up, as well.

I would like to see YTMNSFW fixed. Even when I'm logged into YTMND and visit a YTMNSFW site I'm asked to verify my age. I figure it should remember how old I am. After that I'm not able to vote on the YTMNSFW site because it doesn't recognize that I'm logged in. I've seen this problem come and go for quite awhile now so I'm not sure if it is an issue on my end or not. Maybe bring back YTMNSFW.com. RSS feeds for YTMNEWS would be nice. The flash preloader advertising could help if handled delicately.

I second Nutics on the subject of user deletion. Multi-alt account users are a problem, as usual. Time to round em' up, and send them out the door. When you get the time, of course.

Now about getting rid of alts well I find that a problem in my case. I like to leave people comments on why their sites suck and as a result I get a fair share of E-venging. now it doesn't greatly effect the ratings of my sites but E-vengers are like mosquitoes and to continue to make ytmnds I made an alt

I'd go for ads in the preloader pretty quickly. It seems like a piece of really good, captive audience advertising real estate that could generate some serious revenue for the site, which clearly it, and you, need. Other than that really the moderation system will be a great help. Liking the changes to the vote info on the profiles, though ive noticed the line "You've made x total votes with an average rating of y" is now broken. Though I'm sure you saw that too.

I want to see a weighted voting system based on quality sites (people who have sites that have >3.5 or 4 for a score shoudl have their votes counted more as they are obviously contributiong to ytmnd.)
June 2nd, 2007
215th
(3)
No because alot of times people who vote honestly and harshly get revenge downvoted and have poorly rated sites. I contribute alot to YTMND and my sites either are pure crap, poorly rated, or both. Vote weighing based on vote spread, number of votes made, time registered, and comments left would be the best way to reward active members and stop vote inflation by bad users.

Though I'd like the mod system to be finished, it doesn't seem to be an option for this week. User collaborated sites seems like an interesting idea. For example, the authors for We Didn't Start This Website would appear as NeoMatrixClt and Feedrosie. The site would then appear in both of their user profiles. Favorite users would also be a fun thing to add, but the wiki seems to be doin a good job of covering that for now.

YTMND Store would generate more income, give people what they've wanted for awhile, allow for more advertising to perhaps more capable users, and make the donations(/downations?) more organized, I guess. For a money base that idea seems to win for first choice.

I would love to see the ability to get a CC license in there... but only for use outside of YTMND... if you create it inside YTMND you should be able to use it on other ytmnds without restriction (although having the orig owner claim something is cool...) But remember, this may cause fights between users who claim to be the original holder of work... if someone makes a slight change they may claim something and not give credit to the person before them...

I vote for user profiles, private messaging, groups and friends. I think these things would make YTMND more popular. More social, that is. I would love it, at least.

(1)
The idea of "Downations" is pretty creative. The only issue I would see is somebody donating a lot of money, just to have their site downated off the front page. This may cause some real problems. Hardcore mode seems a bit too tough---A new user is forced to make a site that, if it doesn't receive a 2.5+ rating, the account gets deleted. Sometimes good sites just have bad luck; this is something to consider. The issue of accidental deletion can just be handled by...

making a text box pop up in which the user has to type "delete." The private option, I believe, is a very BAD idea...It will lead to many poor quality sites (that will often be about inside jokes), and that's just a waist of space. On the friends list, everything seemed good except for the "sworn enemies" option because that could lead to *ugh* more downvoting. For the "super ugh" groups, I think you can just hold off on those for a little while XD. In my mind, they would not do much to improve YTMND.

Somewhere between forum profiles and myspace/gogaia profiles would be nice. Like, an easy to read one-page profile showing friends, 'about me' stuff, and some ytmnds they made and/or +fav'd. A less retarded myspace? tho that comparison would prolly just piss most people off

Well I think the moderation system at this point is probably the most vital feature. However, I guess the feature out everything in the TODO file that might be a valuable addition is User Profiles. Nothing real elaborate though I guess basic information and other fields relating to YTMND would be ok. But I don't need to know that BTape is currently listening to Avril Lavigne - Girlfriend and his current mood is hungry. Nor do I really need to know fourests favorite movies...since I already do.

How about a donation feature similar to /downations/ but a user could sponsor someone else's ytmnd work and, in turn, and by clicking that sponsorship (Im guessing a upper-right hand corner link of sorts) they can get hits to their ytmnd (usually a counter/spoof ytmnd). Users could counter this by donating to either remove or replace the ad, with a donation+x amount, x being of a set amount that could either be donation+1 or some other formula.

Nope I'm using a mac. Maybe that's the cause? I use Firefox for most of my YTMND browsing though so I don't know if anybody else has encountered the same problem.

It isn't Firefox. Check your firewall settings. If it's blocking 3rd party cookies that could be why it logs you out when you click on a NSFW site. At least that is what was happening to me.

In my Firefox settings I have "accept cookies from sites" - "Until they expire". I'll try this...logging out of YTMND and clearing all of my cookies. I can't remember the last time I've done either of them. If that doesn't work I might just e-mail support@ytmnd.com.

I disagree with downations. Personally I'd be pissed if I spent my hard earned dollars on a good site (which I do all the time, in case anyone's noticed) and someone else donated an equal amount of money to take it away. if I may say so that sounds like a pretty thinly-veiled attempt at garnering more sponsorship dollarz to me, Max.

Make asset pages have a link to the original site & uploader, (not just the last 50). Also, it should take into account users modifying old sites with new files trying to claim they were the original author.

I'll second that, assuming the original site (or uploader) exists; otherwise it should say "Original (site|uploader) not found; earliest (site|uploader) is (sitename|uploadername|'not available')". If not, carry on with the mod system I guess.

If its going to be not-moderation, I would love to see something else that improves the site beyond what it is now. Something easy and non controversial so you can return to moderation system once it is done. I was thinking User Profiles, with things like groups, avatars, and favorite users.

I'd like the 56k option to be worked on next. I'd imagine it wouldn't be too terrible to code (Though I'm not a coder). Maybe you could just have an option under the Account Options that allows you to see the approximate site of the YTMND, that could solve both problems. It would also give you an estimate how long you'd have to wait for the YTMND to load.

Question on search: it seems that the search index is updated infrequently and not very often (almost as though it's triggered manually; I'm guessing the process is resource intensive). Is there a plan to make this indexing more regular, like something done regularly every day or week?

"[ CONTENT BOXES/ALGORITHMS THAT NEED WRITING ] +- Sites that are older than 1 week but have less than 10 votes." I'd like to see this one, just because I've got some sites that have been up for a long time with under a dozen votes. Not saying they're great, but it'd be nice to see how they stack up with a little more publicity. I'm betting a lot of other users could say the same. Maybe they could be sorted by age instead of vote-count.

I didn't see this anywhere on the TODO file, but it's an idea I've had for a while now. Maybe you could implement it so that the creator of a YTMND/YTMNDs can delete comments (not the votes, just the comments) on only his/her site(s). This way, users won't have to bug the moderators every time there's a comments spammer and they won't have to rely on several other users to downvote and hide their mostly nonsensical comments.

Obviously, this method wouldn't stop people from bugging the moderators about the fact that someone gave their site a one star, but it SHOULD, in theory, disrupt some of the traffic flow. I could be wrong, of course.

+- Enable NSFW warning option Does this mean you'll automatically make any site that is NSFW or flagged as such have they little (NSFW) off to the side? That would really be nice so that when I'm at work I don't waste time clicking on a website only to have it popup that "NSFW click to continue" screen, and then have to click back. Or maybe better yet have an option like the don't show NSFW be sitewide so I don't even see them at work.

Maybe some more on the user customization side, with the full user profile, and avatar maybe. You could maybe let people have one arge avatar, then one tiny one for comments... althought that would be ALOT of images to load on ever comments page. Unless you can figure a good way to do that.
