Ohhh, is that the amusement park from Silent Hill, creepy. Should have used music from Silent Hill, then I would have 5'd. But good job though.
2006-11-03 11:02:31

Not the amusement park from Silent Hill, it's an abandoned amusement park in Japan.

5' gives off a strange, slightly creepy, but nostalgic type mood, quite a rare one.

There is something very creepy about this. Good work.
2006-11-03 11:15:45

I don't usually like the serious ytmnd's, but most of the serious ones are the ones that make no sense, and this one does, it's pretty cool, 5'd
2006-11-03 11:16:18

i dont know why but i found that a little sad
2006-11-03 11:16:53

I dont think I've ever been more disturbed by a YTMND before and that includes goatse
2006-11-03 11:17:13

"Why is that creepy?" It really isn't. Maybe if it were night time, hellfire everywhere, and a giant ass-raping clowing with a chainsaw were chasing you.

Old Mr. Withers scared them kids away, and he would have gotten away with it too if it werent for that pesky Duvessa.
2006-11-03 11:27:39

Uh, eh, n-now, eventually you might have dinosaurs on your, on your dinosaur tour, right?... Hello?... Hello, hello… Yes?
2006-11-03 11:27:42

f*ckin sweet, it must be great for the hobos and crack heads that huddle in the old ferris wheel carts for warmth.
2006-11-03 11:30:10

This place looks haunted
2006-11-03 11:31:49

not sure why, but this is genuinely creepy
2006-11-03 11:44:52

Early version of the site used music from Firefly, but was changed to Myst quickly, like a dolt, I forgot to take out the old keywords. Gone now. :)

2006-11-03 11:53:06

It'd definitely be a good place for a Myst-type game.

2006-11-03 12:10:29

It's not funny or amusing, just interesting. I couldn't help to think that this would be a perfect setting for some type of horror movie. I was also sad, especially about seeing a decent rollercoaster going to waste.
2006-11-03 12:13:35

very cool. i thought my trip to an abandoned nuclear missle base was impressive. maybe i should make a ytmnd about that...
2006-11-03 12:14:56

thoroughly creepy, these pictures blow my mind.

This is a great find. if there were more sites like this then ytmnd wouldn't be 90% sh*t. nice to see something other than the usual pointless stupid site. you win
2006-11-03 12:56:42

interesting, but nothing special
2006-11-03 12:57:36

Very, very creepy. Usually an abandoned place like this would be vandalized and destoryed to pieces. Thing is... all of the images show none of that.

2006-11-03 13:28:55

That's really creepy for some reason. As someone mentioned, there's no grafiti at all. Is that near the bomb site?
2006-11-03 13:32:59

trippy. i love all of the trippy/artistic sites that are coming up lately

It's good to see some more YTMND's that appeal to emotions. YTMND is not JUST a humor website.
2006-11-03 13:39:04

Why would anyone abandon an amusement park? That's like an abandoned pile of money.
2006-11-03 13:39:27

Nicely done, though I recommend checking out the site the images came from: http://home.f01.itscom.net/spiral/t_rando/t_rando1.html I can't wait for someone to riff this with the same MYST music to scenes of an abandoned Rollercoaster Tycoon amusement park!
2006-11-03 13:49:45

2006-11-03 14:03:23

Does this mean I don't have to keep my arms and legs inside the ride at all times?
2006-11-03 14:05:32

GOD. I kept trying to place the music without checking and failed. Myst, I love you. I can see why Silent Hill loves to have themepark areas, though. Man that's creepy.
2006-11-03 14:08:07

5'd for Myst music. These pics really look like something from Myst...

Yeah, apparently there are a lot of sights like this in Japan due to the recession they've been feeling for awhile. It's a sad thing, though it's worth mentioning that the movie Spirited Away kicks off in an abandoned amusement park and a few words of explanation are given. I enjoyed this YTMND, though, the music was a good choice and made it tragic. Not the traditional YTMND I would reserve 5's for, but it evoked a good reaction and that's what good art (which in this case is juxtaposition) does.

i wanted so bad for there to be a surprise NEDM on there
2006-11-03 15:16:13

I love creepy pictures of abandoned places like amusement parks and old insane asylums. Don't know why but I like them.
2006-11-03 15:16:36

this needs the sound of distant children laughing for extra weirdness...
2006-11-03 15:17:39

Even moreso, the Coney Island amusement park rendered underwater in the future from "A.I."
2006-11-03 15:21:24

How could a place of such architectonically genius turn into a place of such sorrow and despair. The metal, and wood of that place yells with great grief, and suffering, yearning for the days long past *Cries lightly*
2006-11-03 15:22:13

i find myself coming back to this site, I like it a lot.
2006-11-03 15:23:00

that looks like a good setting for a slasher movie to me.
2006-11-03 15:25:12

Cool
2006-11-03 15:26:06

Could make a pretty gruesome scene with the swings. Have some bodies hanging from there or something.
2006-11-03 15:27:30

I say we go there for a YTMND convention!

I'm diggin the effects from the images+music combo. Interesting site. Can't help but think of Silent Hill.
2006-11-03 15:59:57

i love these pictures! but i think that the music would be better if it were "liquid sphere waltz" or "for whom the bell tolls" both from the donnie darko soundtrack.
2006-11-03 16:34:37

yeah, i'm sorry. i just liked it so much i wanted to see it with the music i suggested. call me impatient. its just so beautiful. heres to people that just don't get it! ::cheers!::

when i saw this, the first thing i thought of was Chernobyl, but this is in Japan. why did it get abandoned?
2006-11-03 17:16:43

Dude seriously that is a great effect. Perfect choice of music.
2006-11-03 17:22:47

I'd f*ck that park.
2006-11-03 17:25:23

To AngryCat, did you ever see Spirited Away? The Father in that movie said that many amusement parks in Japan went bankrupt and were abandoned in the late 80's/early 90's. If you want to see even scarier pictures of parks that are actually open, I saw some Egyptian park where a lot of the rides were incredibly broken down and the go-kart track became a running track. Then at Nara Dreamland, another Japanese park, there's that old rollercoaster they converted into a walkthrough because of budget troubles.
2006-11-03 17:32:09

music reenforces the creepy/melancholic feeling
2006-11-03 17:33:58

What an intriging setting! That looks like a fun place to climb. I thot the music was bland and stale tho, and not eerie or ominous, but I can't think of any alternatives to suggest.
2006-11-03 20:54:47

dude that is awesome i have to go there! and HOLY SH*T look at that f*cking yo-yo! did kids actually hang off of it with their legs??? no wonder that place was shut down

2006-11-03 23:01:12

I don't know why everyone finds this creepy. It has a bit of a sad aura to it, but I think that place would be awesome to just hang out at and crawl around. Quite frankly, I'm surprised it was just up and abandoned like that. I would've thought they would've at least tried to sell some of the rides, etc, if for nothing more than the materials that made them. To just leave it like that seems... well, uneconomical.
2006-11-03 23:07:14

5 for Myst.

Creepy, Cool, Beautiful. But I'm more surprized to see more than 20 sq ft of japan not paved.
2006-11-04 00:32:05

this looks like it came from Silent Hill
2006-11-04 00:46:43

Perfect setting for a horror movie.
2006-11-04 00:51:27

Rather interesting, though I must say the mirror on the carousel looks pretty damn clean for being so old... Maybe a little cloudy, but the reflection was very clear and there were no dirt or water stains on it.
2006-11-04 00:52:20

bravo Duvessa, you've made a site that's got everyone psycho nuts about this sh*t being haunted like silent hill. way to go, mang!
2006-11-04 00:59:59

Scary and depressing!
2006-11-04 01:00:20

That made me feel sad. Am I gay? No, I think it just the whole how memories can be found in the most sh*tty places.
2006-11-04 01:06:26

the fact that its in japan makes it scary to me... japanese things scare me 4 no reason
2006-11-04 01:20:23

remember the mirror on the carousel is under the roof though, so it hasn't been too exposed.
2006-11-04 01:43:08

holy sh*t, super 5 for myst nostalgia, i heard the music and knew i knew it but couldnt put my finger on it without the seagull noises in the background
2006-11-04 01:44:43

Eerie.
2006-11-04 01:55:56

Quite interesting

2006-11-04 02:26:18

wow kinda eerie looking....like silent hilly shyt. Nice touch with the myst music.
2006-11-04 02:28:03

This would be very creepy at night. Also, with the limited space Japan has, you would think the amusment park would be demolised and something else built in it's place. Like housing or some such.
2006-11-04 02:33:40

Totally sublime and chilling
2006-11-04 03:06:20

look out for old man smithers!
2006-11-04 03:12:43

Mmm... yesss.... go play Myst. And sign up for UruLive while you're at it. (http://www.urulive.com) You know you want to. (BTW, Myst music + abandoned theme park = excellent pairing)

2006-11-04 05:27:36

2006-11-04 05:45:12

I like it, reminds me of Chernobyl or somethin
2006-11-04 05:54:33

I'd also recommend the abandoned meat processing plant( http://home.f01.itscom.net/spiral/niku/niku1.html ), replete with rusty meat hooks hanging from the ceiling. It seems the Japanese specialize in creepy as f*ck abandoned buildings.

Sad but really beautiful. I love the nostalgic aura places like this have.
2006-11-04 08:06:06

Sounds like a band name, or a Scooby Doo episode
2006-11-04 08:29:32

Japanese people are my heroes
2006-11-04 08:56:20

Needs "The Glow" music from the game Fallout, or the Cathedral music
2006-11-04 09:10:04

This one didnt freak me out as much as the mental hospital, but that first picture is really really cool. I did get a little creeped out when i saw this was myst music.. memories...

2006-11-04 11:11:30

Those are some great pictures.
2006-11-04 11:17:31

Looks like we've got a mystery to solve gang!
2006-11-04 11:23:08

Kinda makes me sad to see a park like this. Those coasters look like they would have been pretty fun back when they worked.
2006-11-04 11:24:51

For a second there, I thought this was some sh*t in Chernobyl or something. Wow, thats f*cked up.
2006-11-04 11:33:57

really creepy...
2006-11-04 11:35:16

Chilling, I liked it.
2006-11-04 11:40:32

I can already imagine an YTMND about "PERFECTLY NORMAL AMUSEMENT PARK" with this music, but pictures, with kids and all... LOL!
2006-11-04 11:42:14

"Rather interesting, though I must say the mirror on the carousel looks pretty damn clean for being so old... Maybe a little cloudy, but the reflection was very clear and there were no dirt or water stains on it." thats caused its used at night when the sun goes down.
2006-11-04 11:45:30

This is a serious wtf. I mean, even if they went bakrupt, why hasn't this thing been torn down? Or bought back for that matter? Is that in Hiroshima or something?
2006-11-04 11:52:05
